Ellen English reviews Close Protection by Cordelia Kingsbridge (online free story).

Why I read this: This book was book was recommended to me, and after reading the blurb, I was very intrigued. The other reason I chose to read it was because of its length, since longer books allow for a more in-depth development of characters. This book is available for free, as is the rest of this author’s fiction.

Close Protection by Cordelia Kingsbridge, 801 pgs: Published November 7, 2011, Updated November 18, 2012.

A bodyguard’s life is turned upside down by his intriguing new charge. After three consecutive expulsions for sexual misconduct, Luca D’Amato has no choice but to return to America. Jacob Ryder is the man charged with protecting him from his family’s many enemies – but who will protect Ryder from Luca?

My Review:

First all, this is a well-written book. The prose and dialogue flows well, and I got lost in the story immediately. Luca is the only son of a billionaire defense contractor. He comes back to the states after getting kicked out of 3 boarding schools for sexual misconduct. His mother hires a gay bodyguard to head up Luca’s protection team. What I loved about this book is that this is not an insta-love story. The author takes time to develop the characters and there are some secondary characters that are well developed as well. I fell for Luca and Ryder almost immediately. They are both flawed, and both have demons. I’m a total sucker for damaged characters, and the author allows the characters to work through their issues. Oh, and did I mention that the sex is really, really hot. And there is plenty of it.

Yes, this book is very, very long, but I just didn’t mind. There is tons of action, and suspense and it just tugged on my heartstrings. This book is SO much more than a book about a body guard who is huge, gorgeous, muscle bound with a big cock, being a bodyguard for a younger, beautiful, power-bottom twink who needs to be guarded. Luca refuses to be a victim and I just him love him so much for that. I laughed, I cried, I did not want this book to be over. I fell in love with this couple. I came to understand and have compassion for characters that I initially didn’t like or even hated. Why did I not give this book 10/10? There are some plot holes and some minor editing flaws, but nothing that really stopped me from LOVING this book. I can’t wait to read more of Cordelia Kingsbridge’s fiction.

  1. Hello! Boy, this is so late a post, but is there still a chance to request a copy? This story has a special place in my heart for introducing me, and others, to this author. I’m still heartbroken that she had all of her works deleted. ;_;
