Why I read/listened to this book: A friend of mine told me it was good. Based on the cover and title I would have passed this book by otherwise.

State trooper Brandt’s new assignment to infiltrate a sex-cam operation puts him in a very uncomfortable position, especially since he’ll have to perform naked on camera for his audition. Fortunately his partner and best friend, Donnelly, has his back—whether that means helping Brandt shop gay boutiques for sexy underwear or offering Jäger and encouragement while he researches porn.
Despite his mortification, Brandt gives the audition his best “shot”—and becomes an overnight sensation. But to meet the man behind the operation, he’ll have to give a repeat performance, this time live on webcam opposite the highest bidder. Donnelly makes sure to win that auction for his partner’s sake, but their plan has a flaw: faking it is not an option.
In the aftermath, Brandt is a humiliated mess trying desperately to come to terms with what he’s had to do for the job and his own mixed feelings. But Donnelly has been on a journey of discovery of his own. Suddenly everything the two men thought they knew about themselves and each other gets turned inside out. Meanwhile, they still have a case to solve… but it may not be the case they thought it was.

The Cover: In one word. Misleading. This cover reveals almost nothing about the actual story.
The Title: Again, like the cover. Misleading.
The Story: The expression ‘Don’t judge a book by its cover’ has never been more true than with this book.
The story does begin the way the title and cover implies. Trooper Brandt, due to his young, attractive appearance is selected to go undercover in what is basically an online gay porn house. There are a couple of hilarious scenes at the beginning of the book of the two ‘straight’ troopers watching gay porn on the internet to orient themselves about the case. Including a scene featuring a discussion about why a woman’s ass is different than a man’s. 😉
Their need to outfit Brandt with the proper attire to get him noticed so he will be invited to join the house requires multiple trips to the gay district to buy clothes, which makes for some really funny interactions with the store clerk, Bryce.
Now that the premise is set and Brandt and Donnelly are immersed in their case, Brandt is introduced to a new world he was completely unaware of. His interactions with the men in the house and his introduction to some members of Donnelly’s extended family start to open his eyes and make him question some core beliefs he had about who he is.
Without giving too much away, the scene that finally shows the reader where this story is really headed, what I call ‘the reveal’ scene, boils down to one word…a name…breathed out in a whisper…and it changes everything. When I heard it, I literally gasped and clutched my chest in the way only a true romantic can. ❤
Now, a book that started out as a fun little sexy fluff story morphs into a beautiful love story about two friends who finally are able to see what has been right in front of their eyes the entire time they’ve known each other. I don’t think I’ve ever been more pleasantly surprised by a book.
This book ended up being a perfect blending of humour, romance and just the right amount of naughty to rank pretty high in the list of my favourite M/M books I’ve ever read.
The relationship that develops between Brandt and Donnelly is truly a beautiful thing to witness and I can’t wait to see how they develop further in the next Brandt & Donnelly Caper.
Audiobook Narrated by: Peter Brooke
Release Date: February, 18 2014
The Narration: I listened to the audiobook production of this story and Peter Brooke’s narration was spot on. It was the first narration I had listened to from him and he really helped to draw me into the story. I felt like the voices he did for various characters were very fitting and the emotion he put into the love scenes was very well done.
