Why I read this book: We were offered an advance copy for an honest opinion. That and I loved the author’s books, Unbreak My Heart and Unbroken Hearts, so I jumped at the chance to read this one. Oh and did I mention I LOVE shifter stories and that is what this one is. So yea win, win for me!!!
Blurb:
Levi is ready to do anything to make his rock star—and hopefully, personal—dreams come true.
Levi Tabberton has dreamed of being a rock star ever since his brother’s best friend, Alexander, showed him his guitar when he was young. But becoming a member of his boyhood crush’s band, Lion’s Pride, is even more important.
Growing up, Levi emulated Alexander Morrison and, years later, his feelings remain unchanged when he auditions for the band. Xan is laid-back, caring, gorgeous, and takes Levi under his wing—paw. But Levi’s guilt and insecurity hold him back from letting Xan see the real him.
Levi needs to prove himself worthy of the band and deserving of Xan’s attention, but the lengths he’s gone to have left him reeling with anxiety and exhaustion. Levi’s not sure how much longer he can pull off the charade he’s been acting out to reach his goals and to keep Xan’s affections.
Has he made the right choice or will his dreams fade in a catastrophe of lies and uncertainty?
My thoughts:
This author holds a special place in my heart. Her book Unbreak My Heart was the first book I reviewed for Rainbow Gold Reviews and it was one that I loved/love very much. So getting a chance to read this one I jumped at the chance. Though I will admit I was a bit apprehensive. Not because I was afraid I wouldn’t like it, just wondered how it would stack up being a completely different genre. Well slap me on the hand for doubting. Once again I loved it. Its not just the difference in the type of book, but her writing that draws me in from the first page and holds my attention till the very end.
I have never hidden the fact that I love shifter stories, but the more I read the more they all tend to be the same. Not this one, this one kept me guessing from the very beginning and when I finally got to the end and all was revealed, well let me just say I was floored. It shocked me in a oh so very good way and that is hard to do. This is not your typical shifter book and I loved that.
From the beginning I wanted to know Levi’s secret, and I wanted to know right that second. Yet she keeps you guessing, makes you work for it. When Levi tries out for Lions Pride and comes face to face with Xan you know that instant that they have a past, a connection. I loved the history they shared, it was sweet and heartbreaking at the same time. It makes them comfortable with each other, yet Xan knows Levi is keeping something hidden.
And their chemistry, well let me say, you might want to step back so you don’t get burned. Cause when you put together rockers and shifters well it does not get any hotter. When Xan gets all possessive of Levi, and Levi goes alpha on Xan, well just yum. I also love the band members, Don with his quiet calm and Kevin with his quick to anger but quick to forgive. I really hope this is the beginning of a series and we can see more of them and their stories.
Now here is the only issue I have with this book…..I wanted MORE. When it ended I was like NO I need more Levi and Xan, I need to know more about them. I wanted more story and was sad when it ended. This is one that I will be rereading a lot. Want a hot shifter/rocker story? Get this one, it will not disappoint, I promise. Go…now…..get this book!!!!!!!!
