D.T. Peterson Against Homophobia and Transphobia (Hop Post with Giveaway)

Together, let’s redefine these words:

Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgendered, Straight…

Labels that define and make us different, as they keep us apart.

I suggest that today we contemplating that we change the perceptions, the meaning of those words

and replace them with the all-encompassing word “Love”.

No matter what your preference or orientation, it is what we all seek and desire as we struggle through existence we call life.

There is no greater blessing than to be loved and to love unconditionally, to feel the comfort of a warm embrace or

tender kiss. To know another’s’ soul as your own and to feel there heartbeat deep inside of you is the

greatest gift that we could give to one another.

Unfortunately, there will always be prejudice and hate lingering in the dark recesses of the souls that

choose view themselves as righteous, as better than the rest of us. But, they are the minority now, as

the most recent polls would attest. It is a struggle that will outlive most of us, but it shouldn’t daunt us

from the task at hand.

Assuredly, just as in the Deep South when the Jim Crow laws were stuck down,

the state legislatures will be diligently crafting new laws to suppress us. With the recent spate of federal

court decisions overturning the state’s ban on same sex marriage, the Supreme Court will soon have

to weigh in and decide the issue.

No sane, rational, free thinking individual could ever consider that

such laws could be considered constitutional. Life, Liberty, The pursuit of happiness…. There were no

definitions of who could enjoy these rights, it was meant to be for everyone. One could hope.

I argue that we allow the zealots and the bigots to proclaim their hate and stupidity, and greet the

majority with thoughtful, measured reasoning.

We should proclaim our message with love, not hate.

A simple conversation, one person at a time, will turn the tide and finally allow us to live the lives that we

were destined to fulfill. So today, let us come together and champion the cause of equality for all.

Let’s foist the flag proudly and persevere.

I won’t label you if you don’t label me!

  4. Beautiful words stating the truth. Of course it is all about love and if the world could just allow that love to flourish it would be a much better place. Thank you for sharing that thought so eloquently. One day, hopefully, people won’t need to be reminded anymore. Until that day words like yours help us push forward.
