@CodyKAuthor Guest Post and #Giveaway – RGR Pride Celebration #LGBT

Hey, everyone! I’m Cody Kennedy! I really did grow up in Hollywood and really did spend a lot of time on film sets. My grandfather was a prolific author and couple of his books were made into films! Yep, true story! I write fiction for gay young adults and my stories center on giving hope and learning to live life after abuse, including bullying, and every story ends happily ever after. My experiences in the film industry gave me a terrific amount of experience in how to write live-action and I got to watch how that action was created on screen. It’s no surprised then, that my stories contain a fair amount of high-action and adventure. In Safe, Caleb does his best to save Nico from his vicious father. In Omorphi, Michael saves Christy from a past abuser who wants him back. In my FREE serial novel, Fairy, Quinn is a bad-ass fairy who uses his magical powers to do whatever it takes to right Merry’s life. My upcoming book, Slaying Isidore’s Dragons is nothing short of a teen Bourne Identity!

I love writing high-action and we’re having an author chat to celebrate PRIDE on Facebook at 7:30 p.m. PST today to talk about just that. Come check out the Facebook chat – Can’t wait to see you there!

ALSO leave a comment below on this Guest Post for a chance to win an ecopy of my novella, “Safe”!! We’ll pick one winner at random!

Omorphi-400x600 Available from: Harmony Ink Press

Όμορφη. Ómorphi. Greek. Meaning pretty

Pretty. adj. /pritē/ Pleasing by delicacy or grace

High school senior Michael Sattler leads a charmed life. He’s a star athlete, has great friends, and parents who love him just the way he is. What’s missing from his life is a boyfriend. That’s a problem because he’s out only to his parents and best friend. When Michael accidentally bumps into Christy Castle at school, his life changes in ways he never imagined. Christy is Michael’s dream guy: smart, pretty, and sexy. But nothing could have prepared Michael for what being Christy’s boyfriend would entail.

Christy needs to heal after years of abuse and knows he needs help to do it. After the death of his notorious father, he leaves his native Greece and settles in upstate New York. Alone, afraid, and left without a voice, Christy hides the myriad scars of his abuse. He desperately wants to be loved and when he meets Michael, he dares to hope that day has arrived. When one of Michael’s team-mates becomes an enemy and an abuser from Christy’s past seeks to return him to a life of slavery, only Michael and Christy’s combined strength and unwavering determination can save them from the violence that threatens to destroy their future together. FINAL COVER Safe Available from: Harmony Ink Press

Caleb had one mission in life.

To keep his boyfriend safe.

They met at ten, kissed at twelve, and were madly in love by eighteen. Caleb Deering is the captain of the swim team and the hottest senior in school. He comes from a loving home with a kind father and a caring, but strict, mother who is battling breast cancer. Nico Caro is small and beautiful, and has a father who rules with an iron fist—literally. One morning Caleb forgets himself, and he pecks Nico on the lips at school. A teacher sees them and tattles to the Headmaster. The accidental outing at school might be the least of their problems, because the ball set in motion by the school’s calls to their parents could get Nico killed. In the face of that very real danger, Caleb knows he has only one mission in life: to keep Nico safe. Read an excerpt of Safe.

Fairy by Cody Kennedy 200x300 FREE blogspot Read all twenty chapters of Fairy!

A gay kid, a monstrous bully, and a badass fairy. Meriadoc McDaniel wants to kill his parents. How they could name him after a hobbit is beyond him. Merry is shy, spineless, a geek of humongous proportions, and gay. Everyone at school calls him Merry the Fairy. To add insult to injury, puberty is taking its agonizingly sweet time with him. Now a senior in school, he touts five whole whiskers and hasn’t grown an inch since ninth grade. Typical. What is short on top of everything else? Rick Adams is big, mean, and ugly. His reign of terror turns school into nothing short of a war-zone for Merry. Lord Quinn Malloy O’Cuin, pure Sidhe and born of the High Court of Fairy, is a watcher over humans, a silent defender of lost children, broken hearts, and dreams. His normal assignment is to protect babies from those who would replace them with changelings. Recently, however, Quinn committed a transgression. One serious enough to earn him a demotion from the Queen Mother. She reassigns him to watch over teenagers, of all things! Quinn’s new undercover assignment means he is the new senior at school. He can hardly keep himself from fading just thinking about it. When Rick terrorizes Merry and dares to call him a fairy, Quinn becomes incensed and all bets are off.

  1. I like that your stories are teen based. I agree they need to know it is ok to be themselves. I’m glad I made time to come to this party as I am getting some great new reads for my TBR list. Its nice to get to know the alittle bit about the people who write the stories we crave. Thank you again.

  2. Safe is a fantastic book. I’m sure you will all love it. Make sure you have tissues handy while reading 🙂

  3. Sounds like a good story, and angsty with the tissues needed from the above comment. Thanks for a chance to win it.

  4. Hi Cody and thank you for a chance to win a copy of your book ‘Safe’. I love the extract and would really love to win the book, so lets hope random selector picks me 😀

Wow it must have been incredible to go to all those films sets and watch your grandfathers books made into film. I think we must be related, LOL, as not only do I have Irish/Scottish connections but also one of my cousins and a nephew are both working as independent film directors but in the UK (although they are struggling to get finances and work nowadays) and my father used to be an actor, but he preferred stage work to film work.

I have also been talking to a few author friends who write YA LGBT literature about our concerns for young people not been able to access this type of literature in their libraries. One suggested going to the American Library Association, as they have a LGBT specific area on their site, which talks about policies, book recommendations and more. Perhaps your local librarians, and those who make the policies, could learn something valuable by perusing this area. The home page for GLBT Round Table is http://www.ala.org/glbtrt/glbtrt. Not sure if this helps but I will carry on researching for you, as I am looking into the UK issues as well as that is where most of my knowledge comes from.

Good luck with your book writing and hope to chat to you & Timmy again 🙂
