After years of running from a traumatic secret, young journalist Rafe Quintero is making his way in the world alone. Now that he’s landed a job at a Miami newspaper, he’s hungry for success. His goal? A blistering exposé on closeted PGA golfer Daniel Andrews. Rafe will stop at nothing to get the scoop—even if it means going undercover on Daniel’s private yacht.
Daniel is used to being in the spotlight, but his reputation for being cold and unfriendly hasn’t made him very popular. Still reeling from his mother’s death and his ex-boyfriend’s engagement, he hides out on his yacht to escape the press hounding his every step. His instant attraction to Rafe, his new crew member, is a problem he can’t ignore.
When Rafe and Daniel begin a steamy affair, Rafe knows it’s only a matter of time before Daniel discovers his betrayal. Now he has to choose: confess and hope Daniel can swallow his pride and forgive him, or put his ambition ahead of his heart and follow the story.
Story:
When we first meet Rafe, and realise what he intends to do, I have to admit I didn’t like his character very much. Rafe manages to get a job on the boat that belongs to Daniel Andrews, with the help of his best friend Hector, and he makes a promise that he will help Hector pay for this wedding, when he gets his big scoop. However, as you read on, Rafe reveals some of his earlier life, and you cannot help but feel sadness for what he has endured. Rather than dislike him, I found myself hoping and hoping that things would go right for him. Especially, when I got a glimpse of the hidden Rafe, the one who feels quite vulnerable.
Daniel comes across as someone who looks down on everybody – but this is purely a front to hide his true feelings. He has been hurt in the past and has put a protective shell around himself to ensure he doesn’t feel the hurt or pain anymore. The only people who see the real Daniel are his sister Susan and her daughter Becky, and they also join him on the boat.
The attraction between Rafe and Daniel is instant, but both are hesitant to act – Rafe as he is after his big story, and Daniel because Rafe is not only the hired help, but also someone who would take him out of his comfort zone. Nevertheless, a steamy affair starts between the two of them…..and all I can is phew !!!
All seems to be going well, but in the back of his mind, Rafe knows that Daniel will never forgive his betrayal, but he totally ignores his growing feelings for Daniel. Daniel too, comes across as a totally changed person when with Rafe, but he incorrectly assumes that Rafe is honest and has feelings for him.
One very drunk best friend, and a calculating devious nanny are about to make Rafes life very awkward, but I am not going to say what happens, you are going to have to read the book to find this out…….
I must admit, that this is one book, where when it got to the turning point in Rafes life, I wanted to turn my kindle off and not read it, as by now, you had realised how deeply Rafe felt about Daniel, and you just knew things were not going to be happy ever after, once his betrayl was revealed.
The total devestation felt by both Rafe and Daniel seemed so real, it was hard to remember that this was fiction, and not real life.
This is one author whose other books I am going to read, I didn’t want to stop reading about Rafe and Daniel, this book was extremely hard to put down – probably why I finished it in a day!!
