The Travails of Publishing the Second Novel by D.T. Peterson

Firstly, I would like to thank everyone for their continued support and their help in making The Cove a success. I couldn’t have ever imagined the great satisfaction I have felt reading through everyone’s gracious reviews. Perhaps it is the tears that touch me on such a personal level.

I remember waiting, rather impatiently, for the first reviews to appear, much as I sit here now, waiting for the reviews of Seduction In Red to come out. These are fitful moments, filled with uncertainty and self-doubt.

Seduction In Red, and The Cove, are opposites in many respects. It was a conscious decision to not write the same thing. The Cove was a long, arduous journey, exploring my past, the choices I had made, the decisions which changed and shaped my life. The Cove is about love, plain and simple.

I want the second novel to be different, tighter and fast paced. While I will always incorporate love into the story in some fashion, I chose to make Seduction In Red lighter, and well… smexier. Trevor and Cody are intense individuals alone; together they are raging fire, unquenchable. They feed on each other’s wants and desires, pushing each other to new heights. The consequences of their actions never enter their world, nor sway them from pursuing their dreams together.

Above all else, I enjoy writing to plot, the unexpected turn, the hidden twist. I like to hint at where a story might go, leave a few nuggets of the future along the way, but ultimately I want the readers to be surprised.

Have I done my job? Time will tell. The readers will have their say and post their reviews.

And, I will sit here impatiently, waiting for their answer.

I had planned this for weeks, and I wanted today to be perfect.

“Hi Cody, how are you hunni,” she smiled at me as I walked into her salon.

“Hey Karen,” I replied, hugging her, “how have you been?”

“Busy, with the holidays coming up and all.”

“What do you want to do first?”

“Up to you,” I laughed, “you’re the expert.”

“Ok,” she replied, “Let’s get the waxing out of the way first.”

“That’s cute,” she said spying my new belly button piercing, after I had taken off my shirt.

“I just got it yesterday. It was tough hiding it from him.”

“Oh, you’re a mess, sweetie,” she giggled, staring at me as I stripped down.

“Yeah, it has been a while…”

“What do you want to do down there?” she asked me pointing to my crotch, “Just like last time?”

“Pretty much, just a little narrower,” I chuckled.

“Ok,” she replied trimming my pubes, getting me ready.

“And your chest?”

“All of it,” I replied.

“All of it?”

“Everywhere…I want to be hairless”

“Oh,” she teased me, “This is really going to take a while.”

“It’s his birthday, so…”

“How’s college going?” She asked me as she was pulling the cloth strips off with my hair embedded in the wax.

“It’s going really well…”

After a few excruciating hours, she was finally done.

“Do you want nail polish?” She asked me as she finished the manicure and the pedicure.

“I was thinking just clear on my nails.”

“What about your toes?”

“I dunno, what do you think?”

“I like candy apple red, but that’s just me.”

“Go for it, that would be sexy,” I chuckled.

“God,” she murmured as she spun me around in the chair, “Your hair’s a disaster.”

“How do you want it?” She asked as she ran her finger through my hair.

My hair was down to my shoulders now, I never thought it would grow back in.

“Exactly like Trevor’s,” I stated.

“What do you think?” she said, as she held the mirror and showed me my hair, after she had finished cutting it.

My hair was long and soft, it glistened golden blonde in the lights, and it was angular and tapered. It was just like Trevor’s now.

“Damn,” she laughed in amazement, staring at me, “If I didn’t know better, I’d think you were Trevor.”

But, she always did think we looked like twins.

“Thanks. I love it!” I replied admiring myself in the mirror.

“Hey Karen,” I asked her, “Do you mind if I get changed here?”

“No darling, you can go in the back.”

I retrieved the bags of clothes I had bought earlier in the week, and went into the back and got changed.

I slid the cutest, skimpiest, hot red bikini briefs on that I could find, and buttoned up the shiny, tight pants I barely fit into, and buckled the skinny belt around my waist. I put on the leather necklaces, with the sliver trinkets dangling from them, and brushed then against my chest. I buttoned up the tight purple, shirt which barely had any sleeves, and left the buttons mostly undone, so you could see the necklaces cascading down my bare, smooth chest. After I had placed the rings and bracelets back on, I put on the clear lip gloss, and stared, momentarily, into the mirror, wondering if it was too much.

I retrieved the new bracelet I had bought, and fastened it around my ankle, admiring the cute silver heart, with ‘Trevor’s’ inscribed in it.

“Oh my God,” Karen blurted as I walked out, into the beauty shop.

“You like?” I asked her smiling.

“Come here,” she said turning me around, and looking at me.

“Where did you get these?” she asked, noticing how tightly my pants clung to my ass, and receded into my crack.

“I had them tailored.” I grinned, “Well, what do you think?”

“You’re such a hottie now.”

“Thanks Karen,” I said, hugging her, “it’s off to the birthday date now.”

“Damn, he’s so lucky…”

“Nah,” I responded, “I’m the lucky one.”

“Have fun,” she shouted as I walked out the door.

Everyone was staring, and gawking as I walked to my jeep. Anyone could tell now, just by the way I carried myself and the way I looked, that I was gay. But, it’s exactly what I wanted.

Tonight was Trevor’s birthday.
