‘Not At GRL’ Celebration: #Guestpost by Dianne Hartsock and Free Books <3

*****

Today we are happy to welcome our final ‘Not At GRL’ guest to our blog. We had a wonderful celebration on Saturday and hope it made it easier to not be able to attend the biggest LGBT Fiction event of the year. This is the last of several great Guest Posts. A refreshingly honest post about ‘Dangerous Attractions’. Dianne writes about what she finds attractive and about being a bisexual, female writer of M/M Romance. Learn about her books and comment on her wonderful post and enjoy her free stories. 😉

FATAL ATTRACTIONS…WELL, SLIGHTLY DANGEROUS, ANYWAY by Dianne Hartsock

*****

Don’t mistake me! I’m not promiscuous or anything. I’ve been happily married to the same guy for twenty-eight years. But let’s face it, sometimes there’s that person who walks into the room and steals your breath away. It’s nothing I plan, but I’ll be at work or shopping or whatever, and I’ll hear an attractive laugh and need to stop what I’m doing and go see who it is. If there’s the flash of a devilish grin or a gorgeous set of eyes, I’m hooked! My heart pounds, skin tingles, and despite myself I’ll smile back, say hello. I know I’m blatantly flirting, but can’t help it!

I’ve never been much into a certain body type, either. I’ll be out with friends and they’ll point out the guy at the bar with the tight t-shirt and muscles. I’ll shrug, waiting for him to smile or say something so I can hear his voice. My friends look at me in surprise, but it’s true. Being bisexual, bodies have always come secondary for me. It’s a smile and laugh, a sharp sense of humor and intelligence that catches my breath and sends my blood rushing. Except there was this one girl, petite, deliciously curvy, long red hair… THAT was purely physical. With even a little encouragement I would have swept her off so some tropical paradise. But that’s a story for a different time. See, this is when attractions can become dangerous. My will power isn’t always as strong as I need it to be.

So, I have people ask me, if I’m not into a certain gender, why do I only write m/m erotic romances? Why not throw some women into the mix? Again, I can only shrug. I’ve read some m/f and f/f romances, and you know, they really don’t do much for me. But put two men together…oh yay! Maybe it’s that whole, we always want what we can’t have, thing. Not being a gay man, I can never have that experience. Sigh. What a shame. But I can fantasize to my heart’s content and write it into a story. Win!

With Marriage Equality passing in Oregon, people are becoming a little more open about their sexuality. Which is awesome! Except, the writer in me tends to stare. Terrible habit. But when I see two gay men holding hands or staying close to each other, obviously a couple, I tend to pay attention. I want to catch that certain smile between them, the touch of a hand on a shirt sleeve. I tell myself I’m only doing research. But to be quite honest, I think gay couples are so romantic and cute and I have to tear my gaze away before they come over and slap me. Another example of how attraction can be dangerous!

Okay! I do have a little confession to make. While beautiful eyes and an attractive laugh across the room will catch my attention, I do glance down their body and once in a great while catch that zing along my nerves. Damn! They look hot! And maybe I’ll flirt a little. But I never mean anything by it and make sure they know it’s all in fun. Unless they offer to buy me a beer. Hmmm, I feel a plot line coming on…

265635bfc0c20ac1d1887a.L._V354768625_After growing up in California and spending the first ten years of marriage in Colorado, I now live in the beautiful Willamette Valley of Oregon with my incredibly patient husband, who puts up with the endless hours I spend hunched over the keyboard letting my characters play.
I have to say, Oregon’s raindrops are the perfect setting in which to write. There’s something about being cooped up in the house while it pours rain outside, a fire crackles on the hearth inside, and a cup of hot coffee warms my hands, which kindles my imagination.
The intricate and fragile nature of the mind is always fascinating. Having worked with the public through various careers I’ve come to respect the resilience and strength of the human spirit. I’m always trying to capture that spirit in my writing.
Currently, I work as a floral designer in a locally-owned gift shop. Which is the perfect job for me. When not writing, I can express myself through the rich colors and textures of flowers and foliage.

  1. I love beautiful eyes too (and teeth). A great body is good, but it’s the eyes that always catch my attention. My sister thinks I’m crazy. 🙂
