Thothkristen reviews ‘A Bittersweet Haunting (The Mark of the Jersey Devil Book 1) by Jackie Nacht and T.A. Chase (Published by MLR Press on October 16, 2014)
Why I had to read this book: I have been a fan of Jackie Nacht and T.A. Chase for a while now. When I saw that they were going to be writing together, I HAD to read it. Also, I was in the mood for a ghostly paranormal story with Halloween around the corner.
Blurb:
In a moment of youthful curiosity, these six men were marked forevermore.
Jersey Paranormal Investigation was created when Braden and his five friends were marked by the Jersey Devil during their childhood. Now, they all have special gifts when it comes to the supernatural. Years later, Braden finds himself on his next job only to come face to face with the beautiful victim, Mack. Not all is it seems and Braden and his team will have to figure out why Mack is being targeted and to keep from falling for the man in the process.
Review: This book hit the spot. It has romance, ghostly shenanigans with some violence, and a group of friends who would always have each others’ back.
Mack is a non-believer of the paranormal until he starts getting attacked by a ghost at his job as a waiter. Mack is a lovable character who the reader can identify with, especially if the reader doesn’t believe in the paranormal.
Braden is dedicated, loyal to his friends, and the leader of the group when they are not in the middle of the investigation. Braden has a connection to each of the members of the group and makes sure that they all are happy and not running themselves into the ground. He is the heart of the group.
When Mack and Braden meet, it is an almost instant attraction between the two. Braden has a strong urge to protect Mack and his friends from the paranormal. Mack is willing to let Braden take care of them. The reader is immediately able to feel the chemistry between them but also feels the conflicting emotions in Braden as he needs to keep his mind on the job, not on Mack and how he wants him naked on his bed. The love scenes between Braden and Mack are hot.
If you are looking for a romance book with a ghostly paranormal twist, this book is for you. I greatly enjoyed this book and I look forward to more from this series by Jackie Nacht and T.A. Chase.
