To save your life…would you trust a stranger with your secret? Disillusioned with the direction her life is going, Marsha Taylor wants to get away, to find out what’s left of her dreams. Picking up a hitchhiker along the way wasn’t her intention, but Jessie, a woman with troubles of her own, is hard to resist. A mishap on the road forces them to make a stop in a small town called Diamond Lake. Residents are on edge since a brutal murder happened in the area not long ago. Everyone has their secrets…some of them are deadly.

You meet Marsha, who just wants to get away from everything in her life, and Jessie who is running away from a stalker. This unlikely duo pair up, when Jessie was hitch hiking and somehow manages to get Marsha to stop for her. Although their conversations are stilted at times, they seem to like each others company. Marsha’s car is tampered with, and then while they are walking to the nearest house to get assistance, someone slashes the tyres, and this then means that they need to stop in the nearest town which happens to be Diamond Lake.  They end up staying in a cabin, when the people who have booked it don’t turn up, and then get to know each other bit by bit, even though neither of them is comfortable with telling their full story to the other, however they soon end up becoming lovers.

Weird things begin happening for both of them, and this then brings them into more contact with the local Police, but they are not comfortable with the male officer, as he just seems content to leer at them.  Any future incidents, they try to speak to the female officer, who seemed to take things more seriously, and due to the murder in town, is working with the FBI too. Jessie is confronted by her stalker when they go into town and later Marsha is forced to explain some of her past, when a mysterious envelope arrives at the cabin, and it is related to her past.

Nobody knew that Marsha and Jessie would end up in Diamond Lake… who sent the envelope to Marsha?  How did Jessies stalker know where to find her? Who committed the murder in Diamond Lake??

The more you read on in this book, you realise everything is connected, but I have to say until everything was revealed, I had no idea who the culprit was.   This book will keep you turning the pages until you have finished, especially when things escalate and Jessie is kidnapped…….
