Sex and Laughter by Edison Hart

*****

Sex and laughter go together in my book.

All it takes is one good joke or one good shag and our bodies produce a bunch of delicious chemicals that go rushing up into our brains, delivering an exquisite burst of euphoria.

On their own, each is a fun, joyous, wonderful part of life. (And if you do them really well, both involve can involve a lot of groaning, grunting, iridescent blushing, unintentional farting and accidental leaking.)

I’ve always thought that if you can combine the two (sex and laughter that is, not farting and leaking) then you have the recipe right for a fulfilling and happy life. You can put up with a lot of crap if you have someone to laugh with, and someone to love. (If you can do both with the same person, so much the better. But it doesn’t have to be the case. Gags aren’t just for the bedroom.)

When I started writing my first MM romance last year, I wanted it to be funny. Not just any kind of funny, I wanted it to be “Australian funny”.

Australians adore irreverence. We like to barrack for the underdog, cut down the tall poppy, mock authority and the self-important, and generally “take the piss”. We like a bit of “gallows” humour. This is the country, after all, who’s Prime Minister drowned at sea (and was never found) in 1967 and responded by naming a swimming pool after him. Most of all, we like a rip-roaring self-deprecating joke.

I have tried to steep my books in that.

Luckily, writing gags comes relatively naturally. Writing sex is far more exhausting. (Frankly, it’s more exhausting than the real thing. Takes longer, too.) I work really hard to make the sex in my books both realistic and jockstrap-rippingly hot but, to my mind, the sexiest bits of both Downing Tools and Spotting Jake are in the awkwardness moments and the gentle ribbings the boys share as they get to know each other.

I’m very new to writing MM romance — a genre I adore. I’m thrilled to have been able to make my little contribution. I’m learning so much as I go along and I’m really looking forward to sharing more stories of blossoming love between typical (if usually feckless) Aussie blokes.

Hopefully you will find the stories both funny and steamy. Hopefully the idea that laughter is sexy shines through. Let me know what you think. I’ve so much to learn!

Apprentice painter Trent Hall is a total klutz when it comes to boys. In fact, he’s pretty bad at social interactions generally. So when a fit, super-confident, blue-eyed tradie called Macca turns up on the building site, the 19-year-old Aussie responds the only way he knows how — by making things way more awkward than they need to be.

Misunderstandings, miscommunications and misfires abound on this hot, horny, and often clumsy adventure. But then, the course of true love never did run smooth. Not for Trent, anyway.
