Tracy reviews ‘Fixing What’s Bent’ (Pickleville #3) by April Kelley. Published by eXtasy Books April 15th 2015, 113 pages.
This book was provided free of charge for an honest review by the author. 😉
Why I read this book: I loved the first two books in this series and couldn’t wait to read more.
Andrew Martinez needed a change. He was going to lose his mind if he had to solve one more murder in the big city. The day he moves to small town Pickleville he meets the prettiest man he had ever seen. Andrew doesn’t do long term relationships though. Kyler and Andrew have one night together and Andrew sneaks away in the middle of the night. The only problem is, for once in Andrew’s life, one night isn’t enough. When a serial rapist starts hurting women Andrew’s life gets even more complicated than if he would have stayed in the city.
6.5/10 Pots of Gold
I don’t know where to start with writing a review for Fixing Whats Bent. Let me start by saying the book fits the series perfectly but it wasn’t my favourite read.
This book for me didn’t grab me as much as the first two in the series. The sub characters did keep the story going and made the book a little more interesting. I did like the families and friends on both sides.
Andrew is a former detective, he met Jarron while working a murder investigation. He needs a break and a new job. He moves to Pickleville as the Chief of Police.
Kyler I love, he is sweet, prickly and had a rough time of it after his mother died.He is struggling with his feelings for Andrew because Andrew made him feel like trash after the one night stand.
The on off relationship was a bit of a turn off for me, I did enjoy the rapist plot, it made the book much more interesting. I did guess who was the rapist very early on, this didn’t take anything away from the story.
The overall storyline was good I just didn’t get a good vibe off Kyler and Andrew, they felt very wrong together. This is only my thoughts and could be just me. I am sure others will love the two together. I did like the ending, it was very fitting.
Overall an ok read. I did have a few issues, the main one being I didn’t like Andrew very much, his character didn’t feel right, I hated the way treated Kyler in the prologue. He did redeem himself a little when he tries to help a teenager in need. There is also a sex scene that felt very out of place.
I do want to read more in the series as I would love to see where the author takes it. I also want to know more about Brad, he has really grown on me and would love to know what makes him tick.
