Hi everyone, I’m Ally Blue, and I’m very happy to be here at Rainbow Gold Reviews today to talk about my VERY FIRST full length horror novel, Down. Thank you to the good folks at Rainbow Gold for hosting me!
A lot of people ask me, why horror? I’m a romance author, right? Well, yeah, I am. I have roughly thirty gay romance books under my belt, and I have no plans to stop writing romance. I love it with my whole heart. But I’ve always wanted to write horror. I’ve been chasing Scary Stuff ever since I was a little girl. The very first book I bought myself with my allowance money was an anthology of horror stories. I always loved ghost stories and scary movies, even as a child. I was always the kid who wanted to explore the scary attic, or the creepy old house, or the abandoned, cobwebby storm cellar. That’s totally true, by the way. My grandparents’ next door neighbor had an old three story house built in the 1800s, and it had a good old-fashioned storm shelter outside. That’s a useful thing to have in tornado country, and L.A. (Lower Alabama) is definitely tornado country!
Anyway, that obsession with all things dark and spooky continues to this day. I read a lot of horror, I watch a lot of horror movies (even the bad ones!), and writing horror is something that’s always been on my to-do list as an author. I’ve had a couple of short stories, but Down is my first horror novel, and I’m super excited about it. Hopefully it won’t be the last one. I do have plans to write more of the scary stuff in the future.
By the way, there is a romance subplot in Down. Our heroes do not, however, get a happy ending. Well, maybe if you squint. Hard. Hm. Okay, don’t expect a happy ending as per genre romance Rules. Do expect fear, suspense, dread, and horror! I truly hope y’all love reading it as much as I loved writing it.
For Mo Rees, the discovery calls to his inner explorer and adds color to his dull miner’s life. Even better than the promise of new knowledge is the unexpected connection he forges with Dr. Armin Savage-Hall, leader of the team brought down to study the thing.
For Armin, the object is the find of a lifetime. It could prove his controversial theories and secure his scientific reputation. And Mo is a fascinating bonus.
Then crew members start behaving strangely. Worse, they start to change: their eyes glow purple, their teeth sharpen. Then the violence begins, the brutal deaths. As BathyTech descends deeper into chaos, the surviving crew works desperately to find the cause of the horrors around them. What they uncover could annihilate the human race. And they can’t stop it.
She has a great big suggestively-shaped hat and rides in a bullet-proof Plexiglas bubble in Christmas parades. Her harem of manwhores does double duty as bodyguards and inspirational entertainment. Her favorite band is Radiohead, her favorite color is lime green and her favorite way to waste a perfectly good Saturday is to watch all three extended version LOTR movies in a row.
Her ultimate dream is to one day ditch the evil day job and support the family on manlove alone. She is not a hippie or a brain surgeon, no matter what her kids’ friends say.
