The Luxorian Fugitive by Mann Rambling #LGBT #Review #Giveaway

Dawn reviews The Luxorian Fugitive: Ship Logs of the Santa Claus: Book One, published 17th April 2015 by Wayward Ink Publishing and is 265 pages long approx.

Why I read this book:  I was sent the blurb, loved the sound of the book, and decided this would be my first venture into Sci-Fi books.

The Luxorian Fugitive

Sergeant Liam Jacks is the security chief of transport vessel, The Santa Claus. He travels the planetary cluster with Marc Danverse, his best friend and captain, seeking to escape his tortured past and find some peace of mind.

Having been through a civil war together, Danverse and Liam are close. Maybe too close….

All that changes when mysterious stranger, Hadrian Jamison, an escaped Adonirati, books passage to Alpha Centauri. Can he be trusted? Can the stories of his past be believed?

As Liam’s fascination with Hadrian grows, jealousy threatens to tear apart his friendship with Danverse.
When Hadrian’s owner shows up, Liam is forced to go against orders in order to launch a rescue mission to save him.

The ensuing conflict may be more than any of them expected.

This is one book that I could not put down until I had finished it,  I have not read a book like this before, and this is the authors first book in this series, and I can honestly say that I will be looking for the next one in the series. 🙂

Liam Jacks and Marc Danverse had worked together in the military, and Liam suffers horrific flashbacks to his last mission, and it seems the only way to get himself out of the depressed state is to go to Marc, who uses BDSM to give Liam the release he needs to function normally.  I have to admit to flinching a bit when I read the BDSM, as it seemed so harsh, but then again,  this was what Liam needed, as being soft with him would have been no help at all.

When the The Santa  Claus collects its next cargo and a few passengers.  It is one of these passengers that Liam is attracted to, and he also raises feelings in Liam that he has never felt before.  The stranger is Hadian Jamison, and he was a Adonirati – who is someone that has been cloned specifically to be a sex slave for their master.  Hadrian is trying to get to Alpha Centauri, where he can stay and will not be forced to return to his master.

The more Liam tries to get his attention, the more that Hadrian seems to withdraw into himself.  Marc also seems to be getting jealous of the attention that Liam is paying to Hadrian, and decides to check out Hadrians background information, and this proves to be the worst thing he can do, as this then alerts Hadrian’s master as to his whereabouts.

Hadrian is taken back to Luxorian, under the guise of being a wanted criminal, but is taken back to his master, where is he abused again by his master and his brother.

Liam then decides that he must rescue Hadrian and sets out to try and do just that, but without telling Marc what he has planned.  He searched Hadrians room on The Santa Claus, and found some clues that he thinks will help him to try and get Hadrian back.   In the meantime, Marc realises that another member of the crew called Mac could be a replacement for Liam, but things do not go according to plan.

This is when (no matter what was happening at home) that I just could not put the book down, I had to keep reading to see what would happen, was there even a chance of a HEA??  Does Liam manage to rescue Hadrian from his master, or was this just a futile mission with no chance of success??   Can Marc convince Mac that they should be together??

I am not going to say what happened, but I would highly recommend this book, especially if you like the Sci-Fi books.  I can’t wait the for the next book in this series.

Excerpt

“I can feel how agitated you are. I cannot ignore it.”

“Really? You sat by my bedside for days, but when it’s time for me to wake up, you’re nowhere to be

found.” Hadrian frowned and averted his eyes.

“I’ve been out for two days now, and I haven’t seen a hint of you on board. I’d say you’ve been

ignoring me just fine.”

Liam wasn’t shaking anymore. Frustration had turned into anger over the last few days. When

Danverse told him of Hadrian watching over him, he began to get hopeful that the mysterious man

was getting past whatever bullshit he was holding onto, and Liam might actually get to know him. But

as everyone else on board looked in on him, one person was absent.

And now here he was trying to convince Liam he gave a shit.

A furrowed brow and twitching grimace spoiled Hadrian’s expression. The regal poise Liam had

associated with him was melting as he shifted his weight from one foot to the other. Hadrian seemed

unaccustomed to this level of awkwardness, the words somehow frozen on his tongue. His mouth

opened and closed as the explanation Liam was waiting for never emerged.

“Have a good night, Mr. Jamison,” Liam snarled as he shouldered past, using his larger size to voice

his resentment.

It probably wasn’t the smartest move to bully the man. No matter how much bigger Liam was, there

was no doubt as to who would win in a fight. Hadrian’s tattooed arm snapped out, gripping Liam’s

wrist. The hallway spun as Liam was shoved into a shallow maintenance service alcove. Hadrian’s

arms pinned Liam’s with shocking strength.

“I am trying to apologize, damn it!” Hadrian shouted. The tension and remorse were written in his

eyes. If Liam weren’t so annoyed, he might have taken it better. Hadrian’s hands were in the perfect

spot to negate any leverage Liam could use to free himself. That didn’t stop him from struggling.

“Why the fuck are you here?” Liam demanded.

“Because I cannot stay away from you no matter how bad an idea it is. I could feel your desire the

moment we met. Like nearly everyone else’s on board. I was content to travel to Alpha Centauri in

peace, but no. You had to be a decent human being. You had to show me that you genuinely

wanted to help me. I do not know what to do with that.” Hadrian’s normally composed countenance

was eroding as his voice rose with a sound that had a blend of anger and predatory heat in it.

“I should keep to myself and move along. I should be minding my own business and not involving

you in the disaster that my life may yet become. But the longer I stay on this ship, the more I find

myself wanting to know you.” Hadrian took a deep breath as his eyes began to smolder. “Personally

and biblically.”

Like many gay men, when MANN RAMBLINGS grew up, there weren’t any heroes he could relate to. The world held him back while he tried futilely to hide the real person inside. So much has changed since those hollow days. He finally found his voice, the voice that says it’s all right to revel in the so-called inappropriate joys, laughs, and loves that storm inside a man’s head. It took a long time to find that courage and now that it’s here, he plans to use it well.

While spending years more focused on visual arts, he never let go of his innate passion for storytelling—he wanted to write and draw comic books when he grew up. Once he discovered M/M fiction, a whole new world opened with new possibilities. Why couldn’t you have fantastic and dynamic tales with an M/M cast? He started reading the online tales of authors like, Night Tempest, Rob Colton, and Alicia Nordwell, which only fueled within him the need to create. Eventually he found GayAuthors.org, and with a little coercive nudge from Night Tempest, started sharing his tales with an unexpected level of positive response. That experience and support gave him the courage to cross his fingers and aim for the world of M/M publishing.

Born and raised in Michigan, Mann Ramblings continues to type away, wishing it was practical to use a noisy, old fashioned keyboard that clacks with each strike, if only to annoy his loving partner and spoiled miniature dachshund.
