Axel’s Pup (Werewolves & Dragons Book 1) by Kim Dare #LGBT #Review

Sam reviews ‘Axel’s Pup (Werewolves & Dragons Book 1)’ by Kim Dare. Self-Published on March 11th 2015 and is 568 pages.

Why I read this book: I love the cover and once I learned it was a BDSM and a Shifter book I knew I had to read it.

As the landlord of The Dragon’s Lair and leader of The Black Dragons Motorcycle Club, Axel Carmichael has seen it all and done it all. He’s a respected and experienced dom. Nothing shocks him any more, and nobody catches him off guard.

When Bayden rides up to The Dragon’s Lair on a bike worth more than most men earn in a year, and immediately demonstrates that he has far more attitude than sense, it’s easy for Axel to write him off as a silly little rich boy who’s about to get himself killed.

But, there’s more to Bayden than meets the eye. He’s no silly little boy, rich or otherwise, and werewolves aren’t easy to kill.

One of my favorite genres to read is BDSM and Paranormal is fastly becoming another. To have both a paranormal and BDSM in one was an absolute treat.

Bayden is a werewolf shifter. He lives in a world where humans treat werewolves as an inferior species. They are charged more, talked down to, treated badly and unable to live in packs. Bayden has a strong bond and sense of responsibility to his family.  He will do anything to provide and protect them that includes doing things he hates the most.

Axel Carmichael owns The Dragons Lair and is the leader of The Black Dragons motorcycle club. Axel is also a Dom but doesn’t have a collared submissive at the time. Between being an owner of a club, leader of a MC and a Dom, nothing really surprises him.  When the stunning young man who drives the extravagant bike pulls up to his bar he figures it’s another rich kid showing off.

As soon as Bayden walks into the Dragons Lair, he is asked to show his ID and take his sunglasses off.  Bayden figures he is going to receive the same treatment he does everywhere else and is surprised as well as confused when this doesn’t happen.  When Axel accuses him of being a spoiled rich kid Bayden doesn’t set Axel straight. He figures why mess up a good thing by telling Axel the truth.  As Axel and Bayden get to know one another things  start to change. The attraction between the two keeps growing.  But, can Bayden learn to trust a human? Will Bayden’s lies ruin what trust they have already formed?

This is my first book I have had the privilege of reading by Kim Dare and definitely won’t be my last. I loved the writing style and how developed the scenes were. She has given the character the qualities that make them so realistic. When you add all of it together you get an amazing story that keeps you hooked till the end. It is a long book at almost 600 pages but I didn’t feel like the story was dragging at any point. I am looking forward to see who the next book in the series will be about.

If you love shifters and BDSM or just love a great story unlike most others then I highly recommend picking up Axel’s Pub by Kim Dare.

While she has occasionally ventured towards other pairings, Kim’s first love is still, and probably always will be, Male/Male stories. But, no matter what the pairing, from paranormal to contemporary, and from the sweet to the intense, everything she writes will always feature three things – Kink, Love and a Happy Ending.
