Bethany reviews ‘Unwanted Hearts’ by K-lee Klein. Published by Amber Quill Press on September 20th, 2015.
Hi everyone, I am here today with Brett and JT from the ‘Unbreak My Heart’ series. They have graciously agreed to answer a few questions. They also have a new story out today ‘Unwanted Hearts’ to go along with ‘Unbreak My Heart’, ‘Unbroken Hearts’, and ‘Unwrapped Hearts’. So lets give a very warm, big RGR welcome to Brett and JT.
Bethany: Hi guys. I want to thank you for taking the time to stop by and answer a few questions. I promise they won’t hurt…much. 😉
Brett: Well, thanks so much for having us. I’m still not sure why you think we’re interesting enough for an interview though.
JT: Just go with it, babe. It’s great to be here, Bethany.
Brett: Dang it. I forgot my manners, didn’t I? It’s always nice to be in the company of a pretty lady.
Bethany: (blushes)
Brett: Alrighty then. Kid seems to know best and I trust you’ll go easy with them questions. I’m not as bright as I used to be, you know?
JT: He’s sensitive that way.
Brett: Now why’d you have to go and say that? You’re starting to sound more like old Ray every day.
Bethany: You’re such an adorable couple. For those who don’t know your backstory, why don’t you tell us how you met?
JT: Pretty sure I’m the more adorable one. (laughs) We actually met in Brett’s kitchen.
Brett: Yup. My mama picked him up like some stray alongside the road in the middle of the might. He was worse for wear but cleaned-up okay in the end.
JT: Thanks…I think.
Brett: Well Darlin’ you were in a bit of a state but I decided to keep you anyhow.
JT: (elbows Brett) You were in a little state of your own if I recall correctly.
Brett: Fair enough. More so I guess.
Bethany: And what were your first impressions of each other?
JT: He was grouchy and had this wild look in his eyes. Of course, he was also the hottest man I’d ever seen.
Brett: You shining me on, kid?
JT: No sir. Your turn. Try to say something nice, yeah?
Brett: You know that ain’t hard for me. I guess I thought you were young and tall and definitely not someone I wanted to take too hard a look at.
JT: Why’s that?
Brett: Wasn’t planning on starting anything up with anyone, most especially someone who might be working for me. Don’t get me wrong now. You were every bit as beautiful as you are now, but I just didn’t see myself falling for anyone else.
JT: I understand that. (leans over to kiss Brett’s cheek)
Bethany: Wow. It’s hard to move on from that…but I will. Tell me what your perfect date would be.
Brett: Why don’t you answer that one Darlin’?
JT: Why?
Brett: Because my answer’s too simple.
JT: (frowns)
Brett: Ah come on. My favorite date is anytime I’m with you. Don’t matter where or what we’re doing. Now you’ve gone and made me sound like a sap again. Both of you.
Bethany: (snickers)
JT: Truth hurts. My favorite date is being at the river with you.
Brett: That’s a fine answer and I couldn’t agree more.
Bethany: Do either of you get possessive?
Brett: Possessive? Don’t think I’ve had much cause to be. Or maybe I’m thinking of jealous? I suppose I’m possessive when it comes to wanting him with me as much as possible. Does that count?
JT: I’d actually like to see Brett possessive and jealous. Think there’d be a lot of sexy growling. I’m possessive same way he is I guess. But keep in mind that Brett’s the biggest flirt ever and it doesn’t matter whether it’s man, woman or beast.
Brett: Beast?
JT: Don’t get perverted. I mean the way you talk to horses, dogs, chickens—
Brett: I leave the roosters to Whizzie.
JT: Your flirting is harmless though. Of course, when I heard there was a certain vet flirting back at you, I was a little jealous.
Brett: That’s ridiculous. I’ve got the perfect wife at home. Don’t need to look around none.
JT: You’re so going to pay for that.
Brett: Next question!
Bethany: I’m not responsible for this question but… Brett, do you ever plan on putting a ring on it?
Brett: What’s that now? Put a ring on it? I hope that’s a straight up question because back when I was Brett Black I heard a lot exactly like that that were a little too…personal.
JT: No way. People asked you if you had piercings?
Brett: Something like that. I don’t suppose this fine lady would be asking that though.
Bethany: I wasn’t, but thank you for putting the idea in my head. (snickers)
JT: I’m not sure why I can’t be the one putting the ring on.
Brett: I guess you can.
JT: I mean, I’m more the alpha male–
Brett: Now hold on there, kid. That’s my manhood you’re–oh shit. You’re just messing with me, ain’t ya?
JT: Gets him every time.
Bethany: Sounds like JT is game. How about you, Brett? Ever think about marriage?
Brett: Well to be honest, not much until recently. Never thought I was the marrying kind but things change, don’t they? And I don’t rightly mind who puts the ring on who as long as it’s nowhere near my… private parts.
JT: You’re such a romantic, cowboy.
Brett: Bet your pretty ass I am Darlin’.
Bethany: How about a family? Do you guys plan on giving Whiz a little human baby brother or sister? You’d be great daddies.
JT: Brett would make a great daddy.
Brett: I dunno if that’s right. Never had the best role models for that but I suppose neither of us did.
JT: But you had Millie.
Brett: I did. I’d like to think I wouldn’t be as bossy if I have my own though.
JT: I’m telling her you said that.
Brett: Damn traitor. I think you’d be a good one too, you know. Maybe together we wouldn’t screw up too bad.
Bethany: Awww. (wipes tears from her eye) So that’s a yes then to babies?
JT: We haven’t talked about it specifically but—
Brett: I’d like to. Doesn’t have to be a baby per-say, but a young’en would be nice. You know, in case we don’t make one of our own.
JT: I don’t have the hips for it.
Brett: Brat. You know what I mean. Mix one up in a jar and have some nice lady carry it for us for a while.
JT: Baby with your eyes—
Brett: And your curls.
Bethany: Guys? I would totally carry a baby for you, what do you say?
Brett: (snorts) I’d say you’re a little spitfire and we’ll keep it under advisement. (whispers to JT) She does know that of neither of us will be doing the deed the normal way, right?
Bethany: (pouts)
JT: (whispers back) I think so.
Bethany: I guess we’ll carry on then. Are there any quirks that your better half has that drives you crazy? And how do you cope with them?
Brett: Quirks?
JT: She means what bugs us about each other.
Brett: All right. Can’t really think of any of those.
JT: I can. Brett’s like an octopus when he sleeps. All arms and legs holding me down.
Brett: You make it sound like I keep you tied-up.
JT: Well—
Brett: Do not go there, kid. I thought you liked that I was a snuggler?
JT: I do. Until I have to pee in the middle of the night.
Brett: (slaps his palm on his knee) I’ve got one! He can’t have any of his food touching on the plate. Strangest thing I’ve seen. Except spaghetti. He lets the sauce say hello to the noodles then.
JT: Funny. How about how you’re constantly tucking your hair behind your ears.
Brett: I usually keep it tied back and I don’t think that’s a quirk. It’s a necessity, if anything.
JT: You do it more when you’re nervous. Always playing with it when you don’t know what to say.
Brett: You like to play with it too Darlin’.
JT: (arches an eyebrow) Brett is a very big tease, too. And a flirt. But I guess those things are more cute than quirky. How about the way you floss your teeth all over the house? I find floss everywhere—new and used. That drives me crazy.
Brett: A man’s gotta floss when a man’s gotta floss.
Bethany: Captain America or Iron Man?
Brett: Is that a real question? I guess I’m not much for comic books—
JT: Cap, hands-down. He’s got the body of a Greek god and he’s adorable to boot. I don’t think it has to be comics, Brett. Remember we watched Avengers and The Winter Soldier last month.
Brett: I did like that winter guy. Didn’t think they should have set him up to be the villain though. He seemed more tortured to me.
JT: Always rooting for the underdog.
Brett: Guess I always felt like one myself so I can relate.
JT: You’re more hero to me. But I agree, Bucky Barnes is hot and needs a really big Brett hug.
Brett: (grins) I save those for you.
Bethany: Awww. You guys are killing me. So how about one final question?
Brett: Sure. That wasn’t half as bad as I thought.
Bethany: Boxers or briefs?
Brett: Ah, man. Don’t you want to ask us anything about trucks or mucking out stalls? How about JT’s favorite meal that I cook for him or how I still kick his ass at crib?
JT: You’re digging that hole deeper, cowboy. Boxer briefs, actually, and you can’t tell me Brett Black didn’t ever get asked that question.
Brett: Nope, can’t tell you that at all, but I gave the answer everyone wanted back then.
JT: And that was?
Brett: Buck naked under my jeans. Nothing but me and denim.
Bethany: (fans herself) Okay then. Just for that I’m asking you one more question. Do you have any specific plans for the future? Any hopes and dreams you can share?
JT: Funny you should ask that. Brett and I have just started making some changes in our lives.
Brett: Yup. I’m pretty excited about it, too. You asked about brothers and sisters for Whiz, well, this is a little like that.
JT: Only different.
Brett: Definitely different but no less important I think.
JT: I agree. Other than that, I’m happy with how our lives are, how our relationship is right now.
Brett: We’re just a couple of lucky fools in love.
JT: You should put that in a song.
Brett: I just might.
Bethany: Guys I can’t thank you enough for taking time to let me torture… err, ask you a few questions.
Brett: It’s been our pleasure.
JT: Definitely. We’ll have to invite you down to the ranch sometime. Then you can see what we’ve been up to.
Brett: Great idea. We’ve got a little something cooked up for December. Maybe we’ll give you a call. (winks at JT)
Bethany: (blushes….again)

(Part of the Unbreak My Heart series)
Brett and JT find a new life path when they open their hearts and home.
Brett Taylor has no complaints about his life. He has his man, his health, and a positive outlook on the future. He does have one problem, though. He doesn’t have a clear plan for what he should do with the ranch he inherited from his former lover.
When an unexpected and heart-tugging situation is dropped in his lap, he discovers there are more futures to be considered than just his own. With disclosures, both good and bad, from both his mom and his long-time ranch foreman, and unbridled support from JT, he makes a decision that will change not only his life, but other innocent lives in desperate need of Brett’s and JT’s special brand of love.

Why I read: I am a huge K-lee Klein fan, and a HUGE fan of these two characters.
Brett and JT hold a special place in my heart since they were my first review for RGR. I have read all 4 books in the ‘Unbreak My Heart’ series and love all of them.
While book one was filled with angst and a lot of push and pull in order for Brett and JT to get their HEA, this one was very different. Brett and JT are stronger than ever but Brett is thinking about making some changes on the ranch. JT is happy just where he is as long as he has Brett by his side. Brett is just not sure what he wants to do with the ranch since it was never his dream to run one, until something pretty much falls in his lap. Or rather left on his property.
I love to see this side of Brett, his strength yet soft side. I also enjoyed how JT seems to be more confident not just in himself but with his place at Brett’s side. Oh my goodness, I love these two so much and was so excited to get this story. You can never have too much of Brett and JT. This story was absolutely wonderful with moments that left me in tears. But the good moments far out weighed them, it was such a sweet book.
I thoroughly enjoyed how K-lee brings back characters from the first three books, but also introduces new characters. One in particular that I would love to get his story some time soon. *HINT HINT* K-lee once again writes a beautiful, amazing story that leaves you with happy feelings. It also leave you wanting more. More of Brett, JT and the whole bunch. This is one that I highly recommend, and while it can be read as a standalone I do suggest reading 1-3. Because just like this one they are wonderful and you won’t regret reading them. Another winner for K-lee.
K-lee Klein has lived in one part of Western Canada or another for her entire life. She’s a doting mother of three now-grown kids, and has had characters and plots running around her head for as long as she can remember.
She lives with a patient husband who totally does not get her thing for gay men, two spoiled but wonderful sons (who don’t get it either), and two also spoiled but beautiful cats. Her days are filled with texts and phone calls with her daughter who has already left the nest, and an abundance of fabulous gay men, large and small, bouncing off the walls of her skull, competing for their turns to tell their stories.
Once K-lee finally threw caution to the wind, her first story was accepted and published in December of 2011, and since then she’s been lucky enough to be picked up by several amazing publishers. She’s thrilled to be substituting her previous jobs as a hockey manager/coach, school band volunteer and overall chauffeur with her passion for writing beautiful, emotional men.
Among her favorite sub-genres to read and write are rock stars, cowboys, shifters, and opposites-attract relationships. But to be honest, she’s open to almost anything if it involves messing around in the heads of her characters. She’s also big on series—because she has a hard time letting her characters go—and is usually working on a handful of stories in various stages of completion all at the same time.
You can find all of K-lee’s books and updates on her website: http://www.kleeklein.com.
K-lee is offering an e-copy of ‘Unwanted Hearts’. Comment on this post for your chance to win.
