When Theodore Davenport decides to switch his mundane job for a career, he walks into Holden House Publishing with enthusiasm and determination to succeed. As he settles into his new role, makes new friends, and dreams of making it to the top, everything is going to plan.
Until he meets James Holden, CEO of Holden House.
James Holden hasn’t been able to stop thinking about his encounter with the timid man he met in a club bathroom last week, and when he discovers the one haunting his dreams is an employee, he can’t seem to stop himself from pursuing him.
Just a little fun – that’s what James tells himself. He can’t afford to care for someone who can never reciprocate, not once they find out who he really is. James believes nobody deserves the burden of being attached to him. He’s a complicated man. Damaged. Difficult. Demanding.
Is Theodore strong enough to confront James’ demons? More importantly, is James?

I am a big fan of Nicola Haken’s writing. There isn’t a book of her that I have read that I didn’t love. Broken is no different. It is fantastic.
Theodore loves to write and he has self published a couple books. He has finally landed a job at Holden House. He maybe be low man on the totem pole but he could careless. He is beyond excited just getting his foot in the door. Friday night after work, Theo and a few coworkers and friends go out. He was well on his way to being inebriated when he notices a gorgeous man and is instantly drawn to him. When Theo runs into him once again while in the bathroom, he does something he has never done before. Theo maybe kicking himself in the butt for the quick romp in the bathroom the night before but he still is unable to get the nameless man’s eyes out of his head. He decides to take his best friends advice, instead of beating himself up to just put it behind him and move on. The last thing that Theo is expecting while attending a meeting Monday morning was to see those eyes again especially on the CEO of the publishing house he works for.
James is the owner and CEO of the Holden House. He has darkness that lives inside him. One of the ways he tries to cope is frequent one night stands or trysts in the restroom of the clubs. He believes he’s broken and will hurt anyone who he is close to. Therefore, he doesn’t get close to anyone. When James sees the young man from the club is sitting in the meeting he is attending he is thrown off guard. Not only is he surprised by Theos presence but of the unexplainable pull he has towards him. James decides that he hasn’t had enough of Theo and needs to get him out of his system, no feelings just fun and sex. But what happens when his plan doesn’t go they way he expected . Will Theo be able to break the walls James has built and help him believe he’s not broken? Or will James continue push those he cares about away?
Broken by Nicola Haken has some extremely hard real life battles that the main character had to endure. Reading this made me see a piece of what someone who suffers from a mental illness goes through. It’s not pretty but it is manageable with the right help. I loved how Theodore stood by James and fought for him no matter how bad it hurt him to. James was so strong. I cried what he has and is going through. But overjoyed to see him find happiness and a way to manage the illness that will never go away. James and Theodore’s journey was heartbreakingly beautiful.
I highly recommend reading Broken by Nicola Haken you won’t be disappointed.
“Broken is truly a remarkable book. I was blown away by it, by the raw and sincere way Ms. Haken took these men through the roller coaster of living with unrelenting demons. And now, as I sit here wondering if I have to courage to post this review, all I can think about is how far into my heart Theo and James have embedded themselves–and how I hope they never leave. I think it might be too hard to say goodbye…although maybe not as hard as it was find the words that I hope compel you to read this breathtaking book.” ~ Beth, Give Me Books
“A stunning but achingly painful read” ~ Author Sloane Kennedy
“This is an amazing book full of so much raw emotion that it gripped me and wouldn’t let up. I felt like I was watching a movie in my head and I wanted to just jump in the book and give James a huge hug. Lots of FEELz in this book.. both good and bad.” ~ Alpha Book Club
Nicola lives in Rochdale, England with her husband and four children (six if you include the dog and cat!) She is the author the author of the m/m romance Souls of the Knight series, and is currently working on a standalone with new boys, James and Theo, due for release early 2016. When she is not busy playing with her imaginary book friends (or talking about them with real life friends!) she can usually be found carrying out her ordinary mum/housewife/all round slave duties. Oh, and if the kids ever ask, she moonlights as the Pink Power Ranger while they’re sleeping…
