Two Alpha shifters join together to lead their pack and build a family.
Commitment, loyalty, and strength aren’t enough to make Wesley Stone’s birth pack accept an Alpha with a physical imperfection, even if it’s a meaningless mark. Putting the safety of his pack above his own wellbeing, Wesley trades himself for another Alpha and agrees to mate with a stranger in a mysterious, insular pack.
Alphas from Jobe Root’s family have led the Red River pack from the first day shifters walked the earth. Now the time has come for Jobe to fulfill his destiny, but to do that, he needs his mate by his side. Spiritual, easygoing Jobe reveres Mother Nature and trusts in fate, yet he can’t help being nervous about how his mate will react to his new life in Red River, his new life with Jobe.
Two Alphas with contrasting personalities, different upbringings, and divergent beliefs come together for the good of their packs. But to stay together, Wesley and Jobe must see beyond the surface and embrace every facet of themselves and their union.

As most of you know I am a huge Cardeno C fan. They feel like hugs to me and they are perfect for when I need a pick me up. I have red most of them and some I have re-read many times. I have also listened to many of them on audio. So when we had the opportunity to be a part of this audio tour I jumped at the chance and picked this since I was in the mood for shifters.
So it absolutely kills me to say that this one just didn’t win me over like the rest have. But wait, don’t get me wrong I still really liked this one but there were a few things that just didn’t work for me, so lets see if I can tell you why.
Since this was a short book and a short audio I felt like Wesley and Jobe didn’t really have that much time to connect with each other. I was very upset with how Wesley’s pack just handed him over to the Red River pack, but this is how Wesley and Jobe come together. And while Wesley is at first planning to find a way out of this mating, he quickly changes his mind when he gets to know Jobe. This is where it felt like it was 0 to 60 in no time at all. But having said that when they are together is is seriously hot, and they were really funny together.
Now my second issue and really its just troupe that I don’t really like reading about. I was about 80% in when we find out just why Wesley has a mark on his stomach. He is able to carry and have pups with his male lover. Now for some mpreg is not an issue, and for some they really enjoy it. Me I don’t really fall into either of those. So there I am almost done with the audio and “bam” Wesley is pregnant. Again not necessarily a bad thing, just not really my cup of tea.
But all in all I did enjoy listening to this one, though it probably won’t be one of the ones I re-listen to. This is book 2 in this pack series, but it can definitely be read as a stand alone. I did read book one and can tell you you won’t miss anything by reading this first or as a stand alone. I am looking forward to book 3. So while it pains me to say this I can only give this one a 7.5.

Writing is a nice break from real life as a corporate type and volunteer work with gay rights organizations. Cardeno’s stories range from sweet to intense, contemporary to paranormal, long to short, but they always include strong relationships and walks into the happily-ever- after sunset.
Cardeno’s Home, Family, and Mates series have received awards from Love Romances and More Golden Roses, Rainbow Awards, the Goodreads M/M Romance Group, and various reviewers. But even more special to CC are heartfelt reactions from readers, like, “You bring joy and love and make it part of the every day.”

Thanks for the post and contest! I just finished listening to Widdershins by Jordan L Hawk. One of my favorite books – have read it multiple times and not listened to the audio. Great in any format. 🙂
