Melissa reviews Starstruck (Bluewater Bay #1) by L.A. Witt Published November 3rd 2014 by Riptide Publishing. 275 pages
Hollywood is full of dirty secrets, but Carter refuses to be Levi’s.
Retired action star Levi Pritchard has made a quiet life for himself in the sleepy logging town of Bluewater Bay, Washington. But then Hollywood comes to film the wildly popular television series Wolf’s Landing, and Bluewater Bay isn’t so sleepy anymore. His retirement doesn’t stick, either, because he’s offered a part on the show-exactly the kind of complex role he’d always wanted, one that would prove him more than a glorified stuntman. The only catch? He has to stay in the closet-no matter how attractive he finds his costar.
Carter Samuels is the critically acclaimed male lead on Wolf’s Landing. And now, the man who inspired him to take up acting-and made him realize he’s gay-is joining the cast, and sparks fly between them instantly. But Carter is out and proud and determined to stay true to himself.
Remaining just friends is the only thing to do, as both the studio and Levi’s disapproving, dysfunctional family keep reminding them. Except their friendship deepens by the day, tempting them with what they can’t have but both desperately need.
Why I read this book: I enjoy stories about Hollywood and especially stories about meeting your star idol. Who hasn’t fantasized about meeting their dreamboat idol?
A free copy of this book was provided in exchange for an honest review.
This was a slow burn. It wasn’t until about the 22nd chapter that the MCs got together. Before that it was build up from star idols to friendship, to not wanting to ruin the friendship with a kiss, to continued friendship until the pressure got too much and they orgasm’d, many times.
Levi is an almost 40 yr old retired actor who escaped Hollywood because he was tired of the backstabbing, behind closed doors drama, typecast roles, microscope lifestyle he was living. He’s an in-the-closet movie action hero who hasn’t even come out to his family. His family, by the way, a whole other story. He retired to Bluewater and directs local stage productions. When Wolf’s Landing starts taping their TV series in his new home town, he can’t believe it. When the producer and director come to him with a chance to revive his career and play a character with depth he was never granted the privilege to play before, Levi is torn. He doesn’t want to be drawn back into Hollywood, but he also can’t resist the chance to play this character.
He will be playing opposite Carter Samuels, and out gay actor, who has had a crush and actor respect for Levi for years. It was Levi’s movies that pushed Carter to want to be an actor. When these two men meet, the attraction is instant, but they fight for many reasons. After weeks of just being friends, and one kiss, they stop fighting it.
The sex was totally hot between these too, but it just took forever to get there. I was tired of hearing about them watching movies and playing with the cats, or fishing, or talking about the show, Wolf’s Landing. I can appreciate the fact this wasn’t an insta-love (those can be so annoying!), this was just tooooooo slow. There’s middle ground between insta, and turtle love.
Overall it was a cute read but it dragged on way more than it had too and I ended up skimming a lot just because it was boring and had nothing to do with anything but to be filler as they waited to jump each other.
She also has substantially more time on her hands these days, as she has recruited a small army of mercenaries to search South America for her nemesis, romance author Lauren Gallagher, but don’t tell Lauren. And definitely don’t tell Lori A. Witt or Ann Gallagher. Neither of those twits can keep their mouths shut…
