Dana reviews Kinky Sprinkles by L.A. Witt (Published by Riptide Publishing, September 24, 2016, 152 pages) A copy was provided for a blog tour in exchange for an honest review.
Blurb:
Joel has finally walked away from his abusive ex and is ready to meet new people. But that isn’t easy for a guy who’s shy, self-conscious, and struggling with his body image.
Andre has wanted Joel since the first time he laid eyes on him, and finally Joel is single. But Andre is a Dom and a sadist, and Joel is unapologetically vanilla. There’s no happy medium—either Andre reins in the kinky side that took him years to accept, or Joel grits his teeth and subjects himself to kinks that aren’t his thing. No matter who bends, someone’s going to be unhappy.
They agree to walk away, but they keep circling back to each other. Though their kinks might not line up, the chemistry between them sizzles and the emotional connection keeps getting deeper. But none of that will get them anywhere if they can’t find some kind of middle ground in the bedroom.

I’ll start with the cover and title. I am a fool for black and white covers. I love that the blindfolded (and sexy) man looks content with his situation and his head tilted back lets me think he is giving of himself completely to his partner. The pop of color and the title Kinky Sprinkles is so appropriate for the character Joel. A man who would only describe himself as vanilla with just a sprinkle of kink on top.
Somehow this is the second BDSM book I’ve reviewed this week and both offered such different storylines but I feel like they both painted the BDSM community in a positive light and preached the practice of safe, sane, and consensual behaviors regarding BDSM. In Kinky Sprinkles, Joel has recently removed himself from a bad relationship with a bad dom. Someone who didn’t follow the rules. I’m sure the toxic relationship was a large part of Joel not wanting to have anything to do with BDSM any longer. Deep down he knows that it wasn’t ever truly his thing anyway. Not the domination and not pain play. I kept waiting for details of what happened in Joel’s past with his ex but they weren’t given. It might have changed the tone of the story though into something darker and I don’t think that’s what the author wanted us to focus on.
Instead it is about Joel and Andre. Andre is sexy as hell, but he is a dom and a sadist. He talks about how it took him time to accept that part of itself. As someone who is not in the BDSM community, it seems from this book that a natural inclination towards dominance or submission is a lot like being gay. It isn’t something you can just turn off. Not to say that “vanilla” sex, sex without bondage or pain, can’t be enjoyed. However, denying that part of yourself for long is uncomfortable for those who are into the scene. Aside from their kink differences, the two men get along and are attracted to each other. Trying to stay apart is impossible as Andre and Joel can’t stop thinking about each other, but how can they merge their two lifestyles and both remain happy?
I really love these two men together, their exploration is sweet and their passion is scorching, so I am glad that they are willing to work with each other to keep their relationship going. Only the plan they have in place does make me want more of this story, to see if it works or if they have to revise it as it goes along. It was a very enjoyable story and it was a fairly quick read for me. I would definitely recommend it as well as any other titles by this fantastic author.

About L.A. Witt
L.A. Witt is an abnormal M/M romance writer who has finally been released from the purgatorial corn maze of Omaha, Nebraska, and now spends her time on the southwestern coast of Spain. In between wondering how she didn’t lose her mind in Omaha, she explores the country with her husband, several clairvoyant hamsters, and an ever-growing herd of rabid plot bunnies. She also has substantially more time on her hands these days, as she has recruited a small army of mercenaries to search South America for her nemesis, romance author Lauren Gallagher, but don’t tell Lauren. And definitely don’t tell Lori A. Witt or Ann Gallagher. Neither of those twits can keep their mouths shut…
L.A.’s backlist is available on her website, and updates (as well as random thoughts and the odd snarky comment) can be found on her blog or on Twitter (@GallagherWitt).
looking forward to reading this
