~ For those new to Loveland, tell us how you met and what you thought of each other? Was it instant attraction or was it more of a “he grew on me” kind of thing? What was the first thing you noticed about each other?
Lucky: I thought he was hot.
Jack: (laughs) We met when Lucky volunteered in my classroom to teach the kids about Community. The first thing Lucky ever said to me was “Wow”. Then he explained that even though his name was Lucky that didn’t mean he was lucky. So obviously, I thought he was adorable in a bumbling lumberjack kind of way.
Lucky: (snorts) Which I totally am. I have to confess I heard he was handsome before I met him.
Jack: Probably from his peers at the Valentine’s Day remailing group.
Lucky: They do think you’re handsome. So did I grow on you?
Jack: I still think you’re an adorable, bumbling lumberjack so yeah, I guess you did.
~ Jack what made you decide to move to Loveland?
Jack: I was looking to lose myself because of some bad family stuff. I like the mountains and Loveland just came up on some search I did. I guess I owe a lot of thanks to Google.
Lucky: (whispers) Is it weird if I kiss you right now? (Jack leans over and kisses him instead)
~ What do you think is each other’s best trait?
Lucky: Jack’s very patient. I mean, he teaches excited rugrats all day then puts up with me the rest of the time. Patience of a saint.
Jack: Lucky still has some sweet innocence underneath all that rugged plaid. It makes him kind to people and especially to me.
~ Jack you are a Kindergarten teacher and Lucky you are amazing with kids, do you see having kids of your own one day?
Jack: Looks like I’ll take this one first since Lucky looks like he’s going to throw-up.
Lucky: No, I don’t. I’m just trying to think before I speak. My mom tells me that all the time.
Jack: I’m impressed. I’ve actually heard her say that. Like you said, I teach kids so it’s pretty much a given that I like them. And without jumping to any weird futuristic conclusions, I think Lucky would make an awesome dad.
Lucky: You sound just like a teacher. (laughs) I know for a fact Jack would be the perfect dad. He could do the disciplining and make sure they were awesome smart, and I could do all the fun stuff.
Jack: Jerk. You didn’t even answer the question.
Lucky: I think I answered it just fine.
~ If you were to live together where would it be, Jack’s place or Lucky’s? Or would you find a home together?
Lucky: I’m not sure Jack wants to put up with my ass that much yet, but I’m open to any decision he makes.
Jack: Nice job, Luck—putting me on the spot like that. (turns to Bethany) I happen to like his ass a whole lot and also his cabin by the river. If…when the time comes, I’d be happy to shack up with him and Oreo.
~ Is either of you jealous?
Jack: I think one of us has a little bit of that.
Lucky: Yeah, I admit it. We had an incident at a bar a while back. Was completely my fault.
Jack: No, that guy goaded you. I don’t think you’re any more jealous than I’d be in that situation. A little bit of jealousy is healthy.
Lucky: How do you figure?
Jack: As long as you’re not over-possessive and act like an idiot. I don’t mind knowing you like me enough to want to keep me to yourself.
Lucky: That almost makes me sound romantic.
Jack: Quit playing. You know you’re way more romantic than I am. I like it.
~ Are you close to your families? What about each other’s families?
Lucky: I see, or at least, talk to my mom and dad every day.
Jack: I see them a lot, too. My parents…died, and I’m estranged from my sisters.
Lucky: My parents love Jack.
Jack: They’ve been very nice to me.
~ Where do you see yourselves in 10 years?
Lucky: Can I answer for Jack? He’ll be a successful artist, more than he is now. Maybe with a show in a fancy New York gallery. But he’ll still teach because he likes it.
Jack: That’s a very strange answer. Do you really think that’s what I want?
Lucky: Did I say something wrong?
Jack: No, babe. But that’s not my dream. Sure, I love creating and I’d be stupid not to admit I like to share my art, but that’s not what’s most important to me.
Lucky: What then?
Jack: (takes Lucky’s hand) I just want to be happy, you know? I want to be somewhere peaceful with someone I love…maybe with a big old mutt and a houseful of kids, too.
Lucky: (blushes) I knew you wanted kids. You’re an open book, Canon. Sounds like we might want the same things.
Jack: Yeah? Imagine that.

Why I read this book: I loved book one and couldn’t wait to get my hands on book two.

But shadows from his past keep coming between him and the joy that should fill his heart. Jack needs to reconcile some bitter loose ends, before he can move forward.
Lucky Roberts is in love—hook, line, and kitchen sink. He wants to shout his feelings to the rooftops and scatter little handmade valentines all over the world. He thinks he’s okay with not being perfect, and knows Jack isn’t perfect either. But when his own past rears its ugly head, Lucky discovers that old habits die hard. Maybe opening his heart to Jack won’t be enough— maybe he just isn’t enough.
Jack and Lucky risk getting caught in limbo between the past and present if they don’t have the strength to share the skeletons in their closets. To move forward together, they have to find the courage to look back…together.

If you are new to RGR you might not know this. But if you’ve been around a while you will know that I am a HUGE K-lee Klein fan. It all started with her novel ‘Unbreak My Heart’ which was my first review for RGR. I have read most of her stuff and reviewed them here. When she came out with ‘Lucky In Loveland’ her first self-published book I couldn’t wait to read it. And after I finished it, I knew this was going to be a really wonderful series.
‘Lucky in Loveland’ really just introduces us to Lucky and Jack, it doesn’t have any major drama, it was the perfect start to the series. This one, wow this one K-lee put me through the ringer with this one. So with this one, Jack and Lucky have been together for about half a year and are learning more and more about each other. But the one thing Jack doesn’t want Lucky to know is his family, mainly about his sisters. He thinks he is protecting Lucky from the dark side of his family, but what he doesn’t realize is he needs Lucky. By his side, to lean on, to help shoulder the burden.
This is what I love so much about this one, K-lee puts them through hurt and pain. But what she gives us is the two of them leaning on each other, trusting each other enough to help with the dark spots in their lives. They prove to each other that no matter how bad things seem, together they can make it through anything.
I adored these two men in book one, but fell in love with them in this book. This one is wonderfully written just like book one, and I can’t wait to see where she takes them in the future. But I do need to let you know that this one should not be read as a standalone. It is best if you read ‘Lucky In Loveland’ before you read this one. It will make it more enjoyable, and besides book one is just as awesome.

K-lee Klein loves guys with long hair and tattoos, and you’ll often find her front and center at her favorite rock concerts. She has bounced around Western Canada all her life, but will always consider the solitude and beauty of the British Columbian mountains home. Her life is blessed as the proud mother of three now-grown but still spoiled kids, the servant of two bossy felines, and the wife of a truly patient husband.
Her writing muse is terribly temperamental, so to keep him close by and in check, she had him inked on her left calf. The gorgeous, long-haired, mostly naked, kneeling angel that resulted is truly a work of art, although he’s still a handful and hopelessly uncontrollable. She writes on his schedule and inspiration.
K-lee tends to fall easily into obsessions. When something grabs her attention, she jumps into it headfirst with complete abandon. Actors, musicians, superheroes, fictional characters, and brainwashed assassins all hold spots on her cannot-get-enough list. She once followed Thirty Seconds to Mars around the United States and Canada and saw them perform fourteen times that year. Obsession sometimes leads to ideas for her kneeling angel to turn into stories.
Although an introvert in person, she’s extroverted online and has met many wonderful friends there, sometimes with the added fun of meeting them in person at gay romance conferences. She’s grateful for all the people in her life who accept her as she is and support her through her ups and downs as mom, wife, and joyfully obsessed writer.
