Dirk Tales, The Book by Dan Skinner #LGBT #BlogTour #Review #Humor #Giveaway #series

Wendy reviews The Dirk Tales,The Book by Dan Skinner. Published November 16, 2016, 124 pages.

tdm-dirk-tales-coverDirk Tales, The Book includes previously released Misadventures of Doc & Dirk volumes, available now for the first time in paperback, an additional episode, and more!

He’s a middle-aged, newly single, gay photographer starting life over. Along comes a freshly out nineteen-year-old, irreverent free spirit who wants to be his apprentice. Mismatched by more than a generation, what could possibly go wrong? Everything! And it’s AWESOME!

Dirk’s First Time: Every gay boy has his first experience. Usually it’s a memorable, exciting personal time of discovery and intimacy between two young people. But two comic book characters? Is it horseplay or Cosplay?

The Boy At The Gym: First impressions can be deceiving. Sometimes that boy in the baggy clothes, talking to himself in the gym isn’t as shy as he appears. Sometimes there’s a deviant imp lurking beneath that freckled mask of innocence. Beware the Trojan Nerd!

A “Muse” ing: Most authors struggle with the voices or “muses” in their head when writing. Tuning that voice out becomes a little more challenging when your muse is a real-life nineteen-year-old who inhales espresso and turns out ideas at light speed. Danger Will Robinson!

Daddy and The Rent Boy: In sales, advertising is half the battle. That can become hazardous when you’re in the company of an irreverent walking billboard.

Sex Dolls and Bad Dates: We’ve all had one of those dates where we think we’ve bitten off more than we can chew. The trick to know is Bite or Flight?

Dirk’s Quirks: Everyone has idiosyncrasies; that’s what makes us interesting. If you’re lucky, you get a heaping helping and can share them with everyone.

Make it Naked: Teaching a nineteen-year-old walking hormone photography apprentice to shoot nudes is more than an adventure… It’s a human
obstacle course.

In that particular shoot, the gay model was a handsome man I nicknamed The Disney Prince who had contacted me originally to shoot for the hetero romance covers. In that shoot we found we liked working together and with his being openly gay he suggested if I were ever to do male on male romance shoots he’d like to participate. When he called a year later to let me know the dates he’d be in town and his desire to do that shoot, I had no one to work with him. As my only resort, I called my straight model friend whom I always depended on in a crunch, and offered him a monetary deal if he could work with the two of us on the shoot. I was honest. I told him it would have the Abercrombie and Fitch homosexual overtones. To be truthful, I didn’t expect him to accept, even with the offer of money and was surprised when, without a moment’s hesitation, he did. I’d worked with him half a dozen times in solo shoots and a couple of the hetero romance shoots with female models. He ended up dating a few of those models. He was a delectable specimen. Muscular, tall, handsome, a head of long, beautiful dark hair, he was the All-American jock both women and gays would naturally lust after.

We were given a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

First let me say congratulations on the release of this book to both Dan and Dirk. I’ve been lucky enough to have been able to review all three (3) of these books and you can read all of my reviews here:

The Misadventures of Doc and Dirk Volume 1

The Misadventures of Doc and Dirk Volume 2

The Misadventures of Doc and Dirk Volume 3

I’m sure you read the blurb; it kind of explains what this book is. It is all three previous books as well as an ADDITIONAL episode AND my favorite for chuckles… NEW “Dirkisms.” And I don’t know if you have noticed the artwork on the covers… this is an amazing artist and she has more of her artwork in this book. This is going to be my comfort read, my go to book when I need some happy. I have to tell you to just BUY IT!!! Because it’s amazing! Nuff said!

There aren’t many people in the world that I admire more than Dan (Doc) Skinner and of course Dirk. Dirk, our fearless #Musenerd who approached Dan after some stealthy homework and talked him into letting him apprentice with him. Who knew that would turn into so much more… a friendship a mentor-ship and many “Misadventures” is something that few of us are lucky enough to experience. Then these men decided to share that with us because what they have together makes people happy. They make us feel like we’re family and they make us feel like we can and should “Aspire Higher.” They make us smile. I love them and I know that I’m not alone. Thank you Doc and Dirk. I can’t wait to see where you will take us next.

I’m a single gay man living in the Midwest. I write because I consider myself to be an old-fashioned storyteller. I’ve been a photographer for half my life, specializing in male romance cover art. My dream is to one day live on the beach with my dog and continue to tell tales that inspire and entertain.
