Jack and Riley Campbell-Hayes begin a journey that will change their lives forever.
Set against the backdrop of the Double D, the cast of the Texas audiobooks face changes that won’t leave a single one of them untouched.
Jack and Riley want to extend their small family of three. Their first choice is surrogacy with Jack as the father, and when all this begins smoothly both men can’t help but contemplate at what point would things go wrong. After all, their lives are far from normal, and nothing is ever smooth.
Add a small four-year-old boy in foster care into the mix, and suddenly things become a whole lot more complicated.
NOTE: This book is not a stand alone, the first three books in the series really should be read, or listened to first. This will be for maximum enjoyment. Review might contain spoilers from books one through three. A complimentary copy of this book was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.
I have read, re-read and loved the Texas series for many years now. Maybe because there is something about a hot cowboy and an equally hot millionaire that just screams for me to read it. Maybe it’s because the series is set in my home state, that I feel a connection with. Or it could be the fact that there really isn’t an R.J. Scott book that I have met that I didn’t fall in love with. These are books that I reach for when I need a comfort read. So when R.J. started releasing them on audio I had to have them. I love audios for when I need to get stuff done around the house, or I want to crochet. I had recently bought the first three books on audio, so when we had the chance to review the fourth audio for a tour, well I jumped at the chance.
So I might have said this before but I tend to stay away from books with kids in them. Not that there is anything wrong with kids in books, but for me seeing as how I have three of my own, I don’t always want to read a book with them in it. I read to escape and sometimes having kids in my book is too much like my life, lol. Also there are times when it feels like the kids play too large of a role, or too small of a role. I will tell you right now, R.J. Scott balances kids, family, and life in these books beautifully.
Now to Riley and Jack and the kids. The very first time I read book one I wasn’t sure if I could see kids in Jack and Riley’s lives. But when I started book two I knew these two men would be the most wonderful parents on the face of the earth. When they were faced with the possibility of raising Hailey by themselves I worried about two things. One: how Hailey would react to Jack, and two: how much of a parental role Jack would take on. I needed not to worry. The way Hailey adores Jack, and how Jack treats her as his very own was perfection.
This let me know that when Jack and Riley decided to expand their family, I would be able to sit back and enjoy the ride. But when they do something that most couples in their place wouldn’t dream of being able to do, I fell even more in love with these two men. And not just them, but the entire extended family. This is such a beautiful book that makes you realize there are people out there that deserve to be parent, no matter who they love. R.J. Scott is a brilliant writer and I will always pick up what she writes. I highly recommend this series, and not just the ebooks, but the audios as also. Sean Crisden is my Jack and Riley.
