Book 1
Caleb has spent the last six months adjusting to life possessed by the vampire spirit Gray. Unfortunately, after the events of Fort Sumter, the other agents of SPECTR view him more as a ticking time bomb than a co-worker.
The one bright spot is Caleb and Gray’s boyfriend, federal exorcist John Starkweather. But John has problems of his own. A supernatural killer is on the loose in Charleston, stealing the hearts of its victims to extend its own unnatural life.
With the help of a rookie agent, John, Caleb, and Gray must find the killer before it strikes again…or before they become the demon’s next victims.
Revenge. Murder. Ballet?
Vampire spirit Gray wants to hunt demons. Unfortunately, the foolish mortals at SPECTR have put his host, Caleb, their lover John, and their partner Zahira on desk duty. Gray longs to leave Charleston with John, but if they flee, SPECTR will make them the hunted.
A series of paranormal murders returns the team to the field, at least temporarily. Ballerinas are being murdered by a vila, a demon that kills with dance. If they can’t stop the deadly attacks in time, one of Zahira’s friends may become the next victim.
And while they track the demon, an unknown entity has begun to track Gray….
Book 3
An outbreak of demon attacks across Charleston has worn SPECTR agent John Starkweather to the bone. Now a new threat faces his team: a demon with bullet-and bite-proof skin, which can’t be stopped by ordinary means.
John’s only solace comes in the form of his lovers: Caleb Jansen and the vampire spirit Gray. Caleb and Gray have their own problems, however. Unbeknownst to John, they’ve been tracking a mysterious entity across the city. And after they finally come face-to-face with their quarry, nothing will ever be the same.
Why I read these books: I had to continue with the new series as they came out and I wait for the audible to listen directly. I don’t even read these in eBooks because I love the audible too much. I’m eagerly awaiting book 4. If you haven’t read the first series, go read that first. You really need to have read the first 6 books in the first series to understand what is going on now. See my review of the audio book set of books 1-6 for the first series here.
Brad Langer continues to perform an excellent job with all of the voices. There are more “face time” with secondary characters than I had expected from the first series. We get more background on Gray himself, which is nice. Again, there is slow, overall build like the first series along with the individual story arcs. And there are one to two secondary characters you love to hate. I REALLY hope a certain boss takes a flying leap. I don’t think I will get it yet, but we’ll see. This is also part of the reason I’m anxious for the next book in the series. There is a little bit of cliffhanger elements going on. Enough to want to know more, but not enough to wait for the series to finish. Each book seems to be focused on one of each of the main characters: Caleb, John, then Gray. We still see them interact together, the sex is hot, but we learn more about each person and their relationship as they navigate the aftermath of Fort Sumter. There are more secrets, more work issues, and more sex. Did I mention the hot sex? That’s still going strong. I get into this universe and I don’t want to say goodbye at the last words spoken at the end of the books. I had read these as they released (or within six months of release date when I figured out they had released), so details are a little fuzzy but I still remember the feelings they invoked. Jordan still provides a really good level of realism in an urban fantasy world and I love returning to it each new book.
Jordan has been posting on Patreon that the 4th book is in beta read and edits. I’m on the fence about waiting for the audio version or reading the ebook. I’m still leaning more towards the audible version to release before I “read.” I really only listen to this universe in audible because of the voices. Overall, I really love these books and whether you listen or read it in paperback or ebook, I think it’s a great universe to jump in and immerse yourself for a great mystery/suspense/romance/paranormal journey.
With this, I give the SPECTR 2 Series 10 out of 10 pots of gold. This equates to 5 out of 5 stars.

Jordan L. Hawk grew up in the wilds of North Carolina, where she was raised on stories of haints and mountain magic by her bootlegging granny and single mother. After using a silver knife in the light of a full moon to summon her true love, she turned her talents to spinning tales. She weaves together couples who need to fall in love, then throws in some evil sorcerers and undead just to make sure they want it bad enough. In Jordan’s world, love might conquer all, but it just as easily could end up in the grave.
