Wendy reviews ‘Darkside’ (Mate of the Tyger Prince Book 2) by Shannon West. Published April 4, 2016 by Dark Hallows Press, 226 pages.

The course of true love never did run smooth. Ryan is settling into his role as a new father and the royal consort of Mikos, the fierce and handsome Prince of Tygeria. He’s still deeply in love and happy—most of the time. But the former Alliance colonel is a bit restless, and even though he loves his child and his mate, he needs a bit more to occupy his time. Mikos thinks giving him more babies to care for will help, but Ryan comes up with a different idea for some diversion and physical challenge by forming his own team for the dangerous Arena Games.

Meanwhile, Haggoz and Kevin are deeply involved in a much more serious game of their own. The king warned Haggoz that punishing his own mate and holding him prisoner would be nearly impossible, but Haggoz can’t bear to be parted from him. Locked in a seemingly endless war between his love for the former marine and his duty to his king, Haggoz is struggling to survive. Just when it seems that they’re hopelessly deadlocked, Mikos and Haggoz go on what should be a routine mission against an ARes training facility on a distant moon.

When disaster strikes and word gets back to Ryan that Mikos and Haggoz are both in terrible danger, he embarks on a desperate mission to save them and bring them safely home. Ryan finds an unlikely ally in Kevin to help him save the men and discover that even though the course may be rocky, true love will always find its way.

Why I read this book: I recently read the first book in this series. Read my review HERE and couldn’t wait to read this story.

I told y’all to stay tuned for this one after I reviewed book 1 and here it is!

I occasionally read a series that’s so fantastic I devour each installment and the Mate of the Tyger Prince is shaping up to be just that. I was wondering what would become of Kevin after the last book and boy did I find out. I felt sorry for him in book 1 and then felt bad because I loved Ryan and he didn’t deserve the things that happened to him. Annnnd, then I felt sorry again for Kevin because he didn’t deserve the things happening to him either. I was so torn! And so invested! Sorry for all the exclamation points lol. So I started this story feeling bad for Kevin which quickly evolved into feeling badly for Haggoz (Kevin’s mate). The angst level is off the charts but somehow not overdone.

I’m really loving the Tygerians who fight hard and love harder. They definitely don’t have the same set of morals and ethics as earthlings do but they are as honest as they are harsh.

This book included the MCs Ryan and Mikos from book 1 in a way that I wouldn’t call cameo appearances because they played as important a roll in the story as Kevin and Haggoz. I was glad to see that their story continues.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story and am loving the series. I recommend it highly.

I’m jumping directly into book 3 so be looking for more from me soon!
