Why I read this: I’m loving this series.

A Crown of Iron & Silver is a 107k word m/m urban fantasy with a gay romantic subplot and a HFN ending. It is a direct sequel to All Souls Near & Nigh. Reading the prior books in the series would be helpful in enjoying this one.

My review:
I love these books. They’re imaginative, creative, and just plain fun. This story begins with Patrick the mage being called in to investigate a missing child. A changeling has been left in her place. Jono, his partner, is being approached by others in the were community who are unhappy with current leadership. Then some of Patrick’s old buddies from the army show up and they’re off on a quest to find the Summer Lady.
Man, there was a lot going on in this book. The quest to find the Summer Lady takes Patrick, Jono, Wade and the rest of their crew across the veil. This was something I wasn’t familiar with but found fascinating. Traversing time and space captivates me. There was something in this quest journey that intrigued me. It also tests the limit of the soulbond between Patrick and Jono.
Through all the seriousness of the search and the danger involved, Wade the fledgling dragon was around for comic relief. Who knew teenage dragons could eat so much? Or were such hoarders?
It’s worth repeating there is a lot going on. And tons of new characters to go along with ones from previous books. The series is building nicely upon itself and I’m interested to see what happens next.
What I really love about this series is the relationship between Patrick and Jono. This passage sums it up well:
Jono thought of the accidents and decisions that had led them to each other. And the way nothing in their lives seemed to happen by chance, but by what the fates decreed. Maybe they could have fought going down thee trusted path, but Jono knew they couldn’t win against the Gods. What was important was that they were each other’s in all the ways that mattered. Lover, partner, weapon. It was enough. Patrick would always be enough.
Like I said, I’m waiting for the next book. Have to give a shout out to Gary Furlong, the narrator of this series. He’s great with the different voices and I’m really enjoying his performances.
