Why I read this book: I love to read new authors and NTM authors, JC Claciano kinda fits both those categories. As an established screenwriter, I was curious to see what this author had to offer and the blurb… OMG! who wouldn’t be intrigued by a blurb like that?!?! I had to read this story.
I understand that this is a spin-off from the authors movie series ‘Steam Room Stories’. I admit that I haven’t had the pleasure of seeing those before I read the book but I will definitely be checking them out!
There didn’t need to be any world building here, the story was fantastical and Sci-fi enough that you could both relate to it and recognize the deliberate silliness and shenanigans.
The characters were oddly romantic in the best way. Sweet and naïve, crass and vulgar with a healthy dose of eroticism thrown in. Talk about a strange combination, but somehow it works. There were genuine feelings and friendships. More than once, I was reminded of my youth watching episodes of Batman and marveling at the fact that the more ridiculous and rhymed the prose was, the funnier the story, those things combined were the things that made everything mesh just right.
All in all a delightful, campy rom-com and I hope to see more of these soon.
