Why I read this book: I’m always up to trying a new author.
Krispin Adair has been alone for years. After his family was killed by his brother in the ultimate betrayal, Krispin accepted his lonely fate. Until a chance encounter brought him face to face with his fated mate…
Ben Morgan, on the trail of a rogue gargoyle, finds himself in an ambush. Attacked and left for dead, he knows there’s no hope for him. But when he wakes, he finds himself face to face with his Beloved and an ultimatum; if he wants to live, he must bond with the dragon king…and bear his son.
While the pair are making things work, they learn that Ben’s attack was just the start of something bigger – a war between the species. As if that wasn’t bad enough, an old shadow emerges with one wish – destroy all dragons. Can they stop the war?

My Review:
I wasn’t quite sure what to make of this story. First there’s Ben. Who’s attacked while he’s chasing gargoyles. Okay, not something I’ve seen before. Then he gets attacked and is dying. But Krispin the Dragon King can save him. Okay. Then they had to, uh, do it. Right away. Okay. I’m not up on all the fated mate rules – and authors are free to make their own. I just thought the whole ‘we have to do it right now and you’re going to bear my baby’ thing happened really fast. This is a novella and the time flies. Novellas are tough – trying to get an entire story into something much smaller. The author did a good job and the series is set up nicely, so there’s that.
Aaron Ross is a good narrator. I’d never heard him before, but I’d be up to trying him again. This was a quick listen and a good series starter. Will be interesting to see where the series goes next.
My Rating:
8.5/10 Pots of Gold (85% Recommended) – Compares to 4.25/5 Stars
You wouldn’t know it to look at him, but C.K. has a love for soul mates, true love, and happily ever after. Of course, he can’t let his characters get their happy ending too easily; they have to suffer first. He’s inspired by day to day life and loves transforming the ordinary into the extraordinary in his stories.
C.K. resides in small town Florida near where he grew up. He has a large, crazy family, a prissy Chihuahua, and two mischievous cats that love each other one moment and hate each other the next–there’s no in between.
