Before I get into my reviews, I want to take a quick sec to say that like most of us, I have been heartbroken by the war in Ukraine, the loss of life, the people torn from their homes, frightened children, cities reduced to rubble, etc… I can’t begin to imagine what it must be like. I felt helpless and wondered what I could possibly do that would help those affected. This is a wonderful opportunity to offer support in a small way and offer love in a larger way. I’d like to thank all the authors who took the time and effort to put this anthology together and all the readers who purchase the book in support of the people of Ukraine.
Wendy’s review of ‘The Lightkeeper’s Love Affair by Gabbi Grey~
This story starts with some drama in the form of a storm (that rhymes HA!), which sets the stage for these characters to have a sweet romance. I liked the fast pace and that the characters don’t fight their instant attraction. It definitely helps them make the best of their time stranded together. There’s a lot of background covered in a short time but the author did a fantastic job with their research which made the story feel really real. I also love how Ms. Grey writes adorable furbabies, Buddy the dog is prominently featured and the story wouldn’t be the same without him. Isaac and Ben are engaging and likeable and I kinda want them for neighbors lol. I enjoyed this short story very much.
Wendy’s review of ‘Out of the Blue’ by Kaje Harper~
What a great combination of angst, second chances, animals, and a great kid too! The time lapse that occurred between characters was explained well and I loved the way they came back into each other’s lives. I like that their relationship didn’t just pick right back up, they took some time to become reacquainted with each other. It felt very realistic. I liked that Nate had some anger he was holding on to (for reasons), but was still willing to take a chance and see where things might lead. I like that he was protective of his son as well. Garrett was a really likable character and I really felt for all the things he went through.
There is a great climactic moment that made me both sad and happy, but I’m really glad they got to have it. It felt very cathartic.
I might be wrong here, but IMO the story kinda ends in a HFN, but I think they have a great chance at getting their HEA.
Gabbi Grey
USA Today Bestselling author Gabbi Grey lives in beautiful British Columbia where her fur baby chin-poo keeps her safe from the nasty neighborhood squirrels. Working for the government by day, she spends her early mornings writing contemporary, gay, sweet, and dark erotic BDSM romances. While she firmly believes in happy endings, she also believes in making her characters suffer before finding their true love. She also writes m/f romances as Gabbi Black.
Kaje Harper
I get asked about my name a lot. It’s not something exotic, though. “Kaje” is pronounced just like “cage” – it’s an old nickname, and my pronouns are she/her/hers.
I was born in Montreal but have lived for 30 years in Minnesota, where the two seasons are Snow-removal and Road-repair, where the mosquito is the state bird, and where winter can be breathtakingly beautiful. Minnesota’s a kind, quiet (if sometimes chilly) place and it’s home.
I’ve been writing far longer than I care to admit (*whispers – forty years*), mostly for my own entertainment, usually M/M romance (with added mystery, fantasy, historical, SciFi…) I also have a few Young Adult stories (some released under the pen name Kira Harp.)
My husband finally convinced me that after all the years of writing for fun, I really should submit something, somewhere. My first professionally published book, Life Lessons, came out from MLR Press in May 2011. I have a weakness for closeted cops with honest hearts, and teachers who speak their minds, and I had fun writing four novels and three freebie short stories in that series. I was delighted and encouraged by the reception Mac and Tony received.
