Why I read this book: I’m always up for trying something new.

Mob boss Gael Pierce has recently taken over the territory of Xavier Trabeaux, better known as Mr. X. While cataloging his acquisitions, Gael stumbles upon a gem he didn’t expect—Silhouette, the headliner for a burlesque club who gives even better performances in the back rooms. There’s just one catch: he is completely untouchable, and Gael vows to get to the bottom of why and how he might change that.

An M/M romance short story originally included in the Taking a Chance: Charity Anthology. Also available for FREE for signing up for the author’s newsletter.

My Review:

I’m always snapping up audios and hoping for the best.  I’d encountered Amanda Meuwissen’s name a couple of times and so was intrigued to grab this book.  I wasn’t disappointed.

Gael is a mob boss – not my favorite type of hero.  But he’s also gay and takes care of his people, so that – to a certain extent – redeems him.  Silhouette is a burlesque performer who also does more interesting private shows.  Where he exposes more of himself.

The boss is fascinated by his new employee, but he wants to know more about the man.  Turns out he’s been being taken advantage of for years by the man Gael’s replacing.  A man he very much wants to hunt down.  And he thinks Silhouette might just hold the key to the other man’s location.

Silhouette is fascinated by his new boss.  A man who isn’t out to get everything he can.  A man who isn’t going to keep him like an indentured employee with no free will.  Gael offers him freedom.  It’s an overwhelming offer, but one he slowly begins to embrace.

Then evil forces nearly drive them apart.  But I got my happy ending, so I was thrilled.

Here’s where I move on to talking about the audio itself.  Holy crap!  There’s an original song.  And, wow, it’s a catchy tune.  And Kevin Earlywine’s performance of the song stuck with me.  I found myself humming it later in the week.  I loved it.

So you have to snag this audio however you can.  I loved it and am so glad I got the chance to listen.

My Rating:

10/10 Pots of Gold (100% Recommended) – Compares to 5/5 Stars

When she’s not racing after a half-naked toddler or arguing with a child’s logic, Nikole can be found in her writing nook, typing away as her fingers turn to nubs.
