Why I read this book: I enjoyed Book 1 so when asked to listen to Book 2, I leapt at the chance.

“Julian was amazing… a magical unicorn of a man.”
XANDER GRIFFITH is a math geek with an eye for designer labels, a love of photography, and a fierce need to protect those he loves. He was mesmerized by Julian the moment he laid eyes on him: gorgeous, brilliant, and unabashedly himself. But Julian is also his friend’s off-limits baby brother. So Xander spends the next three years distancing himself, focusing his energy on his math-letic friends, his boxer Cassius, and his LGBT youth center, Safe Harbor.

“Nobody could possibly be as self-absorbed as I think you are.”
JULIAN MOORE is a force of nature and everyone loves the sparkly, snarky, white hat hacker. When he finds himself at loose ends after graduation, Julian winds up spending most of his time reading romance novels, writing alpha-omega short stories, and hanging out with his brothers’ friends. Of course, that means bumping into that over-privileged, condescending jerk Xander at every freaking turn. The man would be completely insufferable if it wasn’t for his sweet, hat-loving dog.

“Are you two going to play nice, or am I going to have to put you into Time Out?”
The two men can’t be in the same room without bickering like small children, but they call an uneasy truce in order to help their friends and save two homeless waifs. When Xander discovers Julian is depressed, he blackmails his friend’s brother into following his insane plan. The first step? Move the brat into his condo! It’s the perfect solution: Xander has plenty of room, his boxer is head-over-paws in love with Julian, and someone has to keep their friend’s pug from destroying all of Xander’s left shoes.

They probably won’t wind up killing each other. And they absolutely will not, can not fall in love.

LOVE YOU, MOORE, the second book in the Moore Romance series, is a 110k-word, quirky, sweet, enemies-to-lovers, second chance MM romance between two sexy, dog-loving geeks. It has an HEA (Happily-Ever-After) ending, no cliff-hangers, and can be read as a stand-alone novel.

This book contains a steamy, explicit love scenes that are intended for mature readers only, as well as dogs politely eating cake at the dining room table, a wrestling hold named the Baby Koala, and unnerving levels of healthy communication.

My Review:

I enjoyed Book 1, although I had a few issues with it.  This book was so much better and a delight.  The one issue for me was that because there are two points of view, sometimes the story goes backward to give the same events from a different perspective.  While Julian and Xander are apart, this works.  When they are together, it’s unnecessary.

That is a small issue.  Tiny.

I love books that are stand-alones but are part of a series.  If you haven’t listened to Book 1, no worries (although you may go back later if you choose), you won’t be lost.  This book starts further back in time than the bulk of Book 1, touching on a few scenes from that first book, showing them from Julian and Xander’s perspectives.

But while these two were outsiders in Book 1, they are now firmly centre stage.

This is an enemies-to-lovers, second-chance, love-at-first-sight romance (And yes, that may seem like a contradiction – you will just have to listen to it to see how it works out).  And as I’ve seen  trending recently, its characters talk about reading m/m romances.  Although Julian refers to Xander as the ‘Iceman’ and Xander calls Julian ‘brat’, it is done with great affection.  Their first encounter got off on the wrong foot (or the right kiss), depending on your perspective.  But in the end, it was the worst night of Xander’s life.  Instead of coming clean, though, he became antagonistic with Julian, and although his pain his was real, his treatment of Julian was really mean.

He redeems himself.  Especially when he adopts a 2-year-old Boxer named Cassius.  As with Book 1, furbabies and their daddies play a prominent role in the book.

When Xander discovers all is not as it seems with Julian, he steps up and becomes an amazing friend.  .  The two men are meant to be together, but there are a lot of games, not just involving Julian and Xander, but with their friends Tripp and Tommy as well.  It confused me sometimes, but the dénouement made everything clear.

I also want to mention the shelter Safe Harbour, for LGBTQ kids who have either run away from home or have been thrown out. It’s horrifying, but that is a reality every day.  That the men become so involved is wonderful.  That they come up with creative solutions to the homeless teens is even more heartwarming.  I felt that Julian cried quite a bit, but he does feel things deeply.  Also, Sean Lenhart is often almost shouting while narrating Julian’s interior monologue, which is a little over-the-top, but nothing that can’t be dismissed because it is so easy to fall in love with Julian.

With Logan and Chance in Book 1, a simple conversation could have cleared up many of the misunderstandings.  Same here, but I will say Xander and Julian do try to talk things out.  Men talking about their feelings.  Imagine that.

I highly recommend this listen as I really enjoyed it, especially the baby Koala.
