Blurb:

For a chance at a future filled with love, he’ll have to face a painful past.

Eric, recently dumped by his boyfriend, is summoned home after his dad suffers a stroke. His family farm in rural Vermont holds memories he’d rather forget, but he—with his degree in agricultural business—is needed to clear up a predicament with the bank. In trying to forget the bad, Eric has also lost sight of the good: green meadows dotted with grass-fed dairy cows and the sugar maples that once produced the area’s finest maple syrup. With Eric’s help, they will again.

A captivating farmhand named Phil tempts Eric to give the countryside another chance, but before they can consider being together, Eric must move past more than his feelings for his ex-boyfriend—he’ll need to stand up to the ghosts that sent him running from the farm in the first place….

Excerpt:

Phil jumped out of the tractor as quickly as he could and scooted over to his truck in the Bevingtons’ driveway. Having Eric sitting with his leg pressed against his all evening was pure torture. He knew the guy wasn’t purposely trying to flirt with him, but it was sexy as hell.

Instead of driving home, he headed to the Urban Cowboy for a drink. Maybe Donny would be there again, and he’d take him up on his offer to fuck. He could use the distraction.

When he arrived in the parking lot, he remembered it was club night. That usually kept most of the cowboys away and brought in the twinkier types and the lesbians. Not that there were that many in this town.

He walked inside and darted to the bar. “Hey, cowboy,” Darla called.

“Hi, Darla. Seen Donny around?”

She gave him a pointed look. “Donny, huh?” She shook her head and chuckled while she poured his usual lager. “You should check out the floor.”

Phil swept a glance around the room but didn’t see anyone interesting.

He downed his bottle and flagged Darla for another as the music slowed down and the gyrating couples changed to slow dancing, which opened the view to the other side of the bar. Phil put the bottle to his lips and took a long sip. Then he saw him.

Darla glanced in the same direction. “Cute, isn’t he? His name is Eric.”

“Yeah, I know.” Phil turned around to face his friend. “His parents own the farm where I work.” He picked up his drink again, sucking it down.

“That’s Bevington?” She looked intrigued.

“You heard of him?”

She shrugged. “People talk.”

“I’m not sure I want him to see me. He doesn’t know.”

“That you’re gay?” She cackled. “Honey, you need to tell him and then hit that. He’s hot, and coming from me, that’s saying something.”

“Darla!” he spat. He had no intention of hitting that. Eric wasn’t interested in him, anyway. Because he thinks you’re straight. “I’ve got an early day. I think I’ll take off.” Before he sees me.

“Alright, cowboy. See you tomorrow?”

He nodded but wondered if he should stay away, now that Eric knew the place. He only had himself to blame for that.

He headed out to the parking lot and noticed Eric’s black Prius. How had he missed that before? Looking back to make sure Eric hadn’t followed him, he walked to his car, relieved.
